11 November 2008 – EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today further solidified its position as the de facto market leader in next-generation enterprise content management (ECM) – launching a wave of new thought leadership and product enhancements at the company’s annual customer and partner conference, Momentum Prague 2008.

EMC is welcoming nearly 1,500 attendees this year which includes a 35 percent growth in customer attendance from last year’s conference. Momentum Prague, the market’s largest gathering of customers, partners and industry experts in ECM and archiving outside of the Americas, acts as a launching pad to a number of key initiatives, including:

    • The unveiling of early access release software, that implements the recently announced Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification, for use with EMC Documentum Content Server
    • First time introduction of several international languages for the company’s premier customer communication management (CCM) software, EMC Document Sciences xPression
    • Ongoing success of the EMC Documentum CenterStage Essentials beta program, designed to bring the value of ECM to all knowledge workers across the enterprise

“For more than 18 years, EMC has been the market’s thought leader in enterprise content management,” said Mark Lewis, President of Content Management and Archiving at EMC. “From offering one of the market’s first content management solutions for the Web 2.0 enterprise to driving new standards for interoperability in multi-vendor environments, EMC continues to deliver solutions that customers need to be successful in today’s competitive business environment. Our announcements at Momentum take this vision one step further – cementing our leadership and position in enterprise content management.”

EMC and Content Management Interoperability Services

Less than two months ago, EMC—in conjunction with a host of other ECM vendors—announced a jointly developed specification that leverages Web Services and Web 2.0 interfaces enabling applications to interoperate within multiple ECM repositories by different vendors. Currently, customers must spend valuable time and money to create and maintain custom integration code and one-off integrations to get ECM systems within their organisations to “talk” to one another. The ultimate goal of CMIS is to dramatically reduce the IT burden around managing these multi-vendor, multi-repository environments. The CMIS specification is currently with OASIS (Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) which recently formed a CMIS Technical Committee to advance CMIS as an open standard and promote its implementation.

Today, EMC is unveiling early access release software of EMC Documentum’s implementation of CMIS. Customers may now download the Documentum interface software supporting CMIS for use in their multi-vendor environments by visiting the EMC Community Network at https://community.emc.com/community/labs/cmis.

New International Language Support for CCM

In today’s challenged economy, customer intimacy and communication is more important than ever. With EMC Document Sciences xPression, customers gain a complete solution for generating all types of personalised customer communications to help improve the overall customer experience while cutting costs and increasing efficiency. xPression easily integrates with existing business workflows and infrastructure for the creation and multi-channel delivery of highly personalised, interactive business communications.

To enable a wider array of customers to leverage and benefit from a CCM solution, xPression now provides a broader range of capabilities in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese. The solution also offers significantly enhanced integration with Documentum, including new repository, business process management and archival capabilities. This integration enables a richer class of applications that tie together content management, process management, compliance and customer communications in a way not previously available.

“Even in this tough economic climate, companies are continuing to seek new ways to deliver the most rewarding customer experience while reducing operating costs,” said Doug Winter, Vice President and General Manager, EMC Document Sciences. “Expanding the language support for EMC Document Sciences xPression now allows European and Latin American organisations to leverage a single platform to produce all print and electronic customer communications thereby reducing costs and streamlining efficiencies. The solution’s seamless integration with localised versions of familiar authoring tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Dreamweaver provides companies unrivaled agility, faster time to market and unparalleled customer experience.”

EMC Documentum CenterStage Essentials Beta Program

In the new Web 2.0 world, customers are looking to work with corporate information in an easy-to-use, easy-to-find and easy-to-interact format. Launched this past July, CenterStage Essentials is a new client for knowledge workers – providing a dynamic collaborative workspace that lets employees share content, manage workgroups, track changes and annotate shared documents with comments.

Currently, EMC boasts more than 300 enterprise customers enrolled in its CenterStage Essentials beta program. Users continue to praise the solution’s ability to provide a range of information viewing options, allowing them to browse files in an “image carousel,” scan thumbnails or click through folders in the traditional list view.

“Overall, we’ve found that EMC Documentum CenterStage Essentials has the potential to dramatically enhance end-user productivity and improve team collaboration with its support for individual and team workspaces,” said Tom Rothwell, Head of Information Management at Fujitsu. “At the same time, we’re finding that the solution meets our own IT needs for robust security and extensive self-administration capabilities, which reduces the dependence on IT resources.”

“Crown is very excited about the introduction of EMC Documentum CenterStage Essentials as it greatly improves the knowledge worker’s experience with its ease-of-use features while providing secure team collaboration, federated search and Web 2.0 tools,” said Richard Hearn, Managing Director at Crown Partners. “In support of EMC’s new knowledge worker client, Crown has developed RedCarpet to make it simple for customers to migrate their content from EMC Documentum eRoom to EMC Documentum CenterStage Essentials.”

CenterStage Essentials and xPression -- as well as products recently introduced as part of EMC Documentum ECM 6.5 -- will be demonstrated during the conference keynote sessions and throughout the exhibit floor. In addition, there will be more than 50 partners showcasing their products and services that integrate and leverage EMC’s market-leading content management and archiving solutions.
