Latest acquisition helps Dell “bookend” the network security space

It’s an exciting time to be a Dell customer. The company’s recent wave of M&A activity underscores our commitment to strengthening our core capabilities and building a true solutions powerhouse.

Last week’s announcement of Dell’s acquisition of Secureworks, a leader in the information-security space (see Gartner Magic Quadrant for MSSPs) is a clear illustration of how we intend to serve IT customers with a one-stop shop for their networking needs.

But that’s only one bookend on the shelf.

Dell is also committed to supporting the network security space as a hardware and services partner. OEMs, just like Dell and Secureworks, require customizable, stable, high-quality and competitively-priced appliances in the markets they serve.  But what really differentiates their best suppliers and partners goes well beyond the hardware.

OEMs demand that engineering expertise, manufacturing and logistics capabilities, global services and support are embedded into their value chain. To remain competitive they need to go to market fast, be able to scale with the growth of their business and reallocate resources towards their true IP – like software development.  They also require extensive services that will help them lead the evolution of this market with alternative delivery models (e.g. Cloud) and flexible financing schemes.    Through our OEM Solutions team, Dell offers the other bookend that serves the networking/security market (and many other software applications too!) through our end-to-end appliance program.

The recent BlueSoc announcement from Dell OEM EMEA drives this point home. BlueSoc develops real-time monitoring and security solutions and chose Dell OEM Solutions to power their Business Security Intelligence (BSI) appliance. They will also leverage Dell’s global supply chain network to support its international expansion.  Many other top players in this market are powered by Dell OEM: Symantec, Google, Websense, to name a few.
