Financial institutions have gotten a lot of bad press in the recent past, so I’m happy to report that some are making some pretty intelligent choices. Case in point: First National Bank, the largest subsidiary of FNB Corporation. First National Bank is a leading financial services provider, offering commercial and retail banking, leasing, wealth management, and investments through more than 220 locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
First National relies on technology to enhance business efficiency, so when they needed to figure out how to accommodate their rapid business growth, while containing physical IT footprint, they called on Dell.
The bank engaged Dell IT Consulting Services to do a backup, recovery, and archiving assessment, and the end result was a scalable yet consolidated EMC storage environment with CommVault® Simpana® backup software and virtualized servers. The results are pretty amazing. They not only reduced their backup times by 73%, they also gained room for growth by consolidating more than 80% of their storage! What’s more, they saved more than $5M over three years by reducing the costs of buying backup tapes and managing storage tasks.
These IT efficiencies have direct impact on their customers too. Now, if there is any hardware issue, they can restore services rapidly, without employees or banking customers experiencing downtime. What’s more, they are reinvesting their savings into new projects that will further improve operational efficiency and enhance customer service.
Maybe I should move to Ohio or Pennsylvania so I can bank with these guys! Read the full story of their IT success!
