So Happy Together – Partner Solutions Support Emerging Workloads for EMC Isilon Customers

Today we announced new hardware, software and solutions to support traditional and emerging workloads in IT’s mission to transform itself to better meet business needs. These new offerings redefine what scale-out NAS is capable of and enable customers to build a scale-out Data Lake to ingest, store, protect and manage massive amounts of unstructured data.

We’ve teamed with a number of our key technology partners to introduce proven solutions for emerging workloads that help enterprises capitalize on the power of Isilon.

Many organizations would like to move their information workers to a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment, but aren’t sure where to start. And while the economics can be attractive, there’s also the concern about delivering a consistent level of performance that end-users require. The new Scale-Out VDI converged infrastructure solution meets this need. It combines VCE Vblock Systems with EMC XtremIO all-flash arrays and EMC Isilon scale-out NAS for a comprehensive, easily integrated VDI solution. Scale-Out VDI uses XtremIO all-flash arrays to address performance needs, while Isilon scale-out NAS provides highly efficient, highly scalable storage.

We’ve also teamed with VCE on a new converged infrastructure solution designed specifically for Big Data storage and analytics. This solution, combining VCE Vblock Systems with EMC Isilon scale-out NAS, allows organizations to quickly deploy a proven solution to consolidate inefficient “islands of storage” for growing unstructured data. Once in place, organizations can take advantage of Isilon’s native HDFS support to use any commercial Apache Hadoop Distribution for their various analytics projects.

In the Big Data analytics arena, Hadoop is a game-changing technology. We’ve worked with key partners to develop a portfolio of Hadoop solutions that can span a wide range of business needs.

For organizations looking to adopt a scale-out data lake that is optimized for Hadoop workloads, the new EMC Data Lake Hadoop Bundle is an easy way to begin. This Big Data storage and analytics solution from the EMC Federation combines EMC Isilon scale-out storage with Pivotal HD software and Pivotal HAWQ, a parallel SQL query engine. With this solution, organizations can consolidate their unstructured and semi-structured data onto a highly scalable and efficient storage platform that can easily accommodate large and growing data sets. Leveraging Isilon’s native support for HDFS and Pivotal’s powerful analytics capabilities, organizations can then quickly begin Big Data analytics projects to unlock the value of their enterprise data assets. And because Isilon enables in-place Hadoop analytics, organizations can save time and money by avoiding the need to build a separate, stand-alone analytics infrastructure and the resources needed to replicate and move large-scale data sets.

Cloud is increasingly becoming a preferred model of consuming technology. We are working with several partners to provide cloud options. This includes a media cloudwith Atos SE and Canopy.

These new solutions address a wide range of customer needs and provide an easy, low-risk way for many organizations to get started on new and emerging workloads.  They’re also designed to fit a range of IT infrastructure strategies and business models encompassing traditional on-premise, converged infrastructure and the cloud. These solutions are stellar proof points for how EMC Isilon is redefining scale-out NAS.
