Full steam ahead in the new year

The New Year may have just kicked off but we are going full steam ahead into 2016. We’ve been busy connecting with influencers, expanding our strategies and putting out new products and services for our customers and partners.

Networking Announcements and a Field Day

January was a very busy month for the Dell Networking team. We introduced OS10, a Linux-based operating system that takes Open Networking to a new level with the disaggregation of the networking operating system to enhance customer choice, control and programmability. OS10 will allow enterprises to add third-party networking components and use common scripting languages to develop new network capabilities. Here’s Tom Burns with more details on this exciting development:

During that same week, we hosted Networking Field Day in Santa Clara, with some of the smartest bloggers and podcasters in enterprise tech. This year, we highlighted demos of our newly-announced OS10 and presented on some of our newer releases of campus and data center switches. You can see all of the presentations via the videos hosted here.

Our Servers are Cool…

In January we were pleased to be represented by four entries in CRN’s 10 coolest servers of 2015. These four entries really showcase the breadth of our offerings in servers and converged infrastructure, including the Dell PowerEdge FX2, Dell PowerEdge C6320, Dell PowerEdge R930 and the Dell DSS 7000.

…and So is Barbie

Barbie shows off the mini Modular Data Center at Tech Field Day

Just last week (technically February, but we’ll include it here) we hosted Tech Field Day in Texas. We started the day with a tour of the Engineered Solutions labs on our Parmer campus, where engineers discussed our cloud solutions and HPC offerings. Then we traveled up the road to Round Rock, where experts from Dell presented on topics ranging from systems management to the Nutanix-based XC Series appliance to Datacenter Scalable Solutions. We brought along some Lego-built servers and a model of the Modular Data Center as well, because everyone loves toys. Here’s Brian Doty talking about the management capabilities on PowerEdge VRTX:

Forecast: more cloudiness

On the cloud front, we’ve been focused on emerging trends such as hybrid cloud, repatriation and flexible payment models. This year we plan to expand on multi-cloud strategies, opening more opportunities for channel partners. We also unveiled two new additions to our cloud-client computing portfolio, Dell Wyse ThinOS 8.2 and Dell Appliance for Wyse. These solutions will help optimize communication productivity for thin client users and make it more efficient to deploy and run Citrix environments. Our work has not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by our second place ranking in IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Cloud IT Infrastructure Tracker.

Storage Awards

Finally, this month we were proud to be included as a 2015 Products of the Year finalist for the Dell Storage SC4020 TLC array in the disk/hybrid storage systems category in Tech Target.

Overall, it’s been a great start to the year. With a number of new initiatives in place and projects in the works, we are excited to see what the rest of this year will hold. Stay tuned to this blog for more exciting news and developments.
