Desktop virtualization is poised to become a primary way enterprises deliver Windows desktops to their users. Extending virtual desktops to mobile workers requires a local VM-based desktop solution that delivers the benefits of centralized management and security while allowing for local execution and the ability to work while disconnected from the network. Current desktop virtualization technologies have not been able to deliver the performance or security required for widespread use. Client Hypervisors like Citrix XenClient bring the power of desktop virtualization to mobile users with the security, flexibility and high-definition user experience required mainstream adoption.
Based on Citrix XenServer, XenClient is a bare metal client hypervisor that enables each virtual machine to run side-by-side directly on the hardware, rather than hosted within the installed operating system. IT can deliver highly secure locked down corporate environments while giving users the flexibility to install personal applications in a separate virtual machine without compromising the security of either desktop. A lost or stolen laptop can be disabled remotely and restored to any other XenClient laptop, ensuring the security valuable corporate data.
XenClient extends current client devices and enables you to run multiple operating environments simultaneously, for example, you are able to run a work and personal environment. You will also be able to run dedicated virtual machines for security, manageability, communication and a myriad of other applications.
Dell’s vision for desktop virtualization has included client hypervisors since its inception. As we bring our Client Hosted Virtualization solution to market, we will continue working closely with Citrix to optimize XenClient for our client hardware. In the near future, you will be able to order volume Latitude laptops from Dell directly from the factory with XenClient installed.
But you don’t have to wait until then to experience this impressive technology. We encourage you to get started today by downloading XenClient and trying it for yourself.
