Today, we’re kicking off voting in our community-driven design challenges, one focused on green computing technology and the other focused on green ideas, visions and scenarios. The enthusiasm of both communities has proven to be truly remarkable, and we’re looking forward to having everyone weigh in through the online voting process.
The “Regeneration: International Green Computing Design Competition,” which recently completed its first round of judging, was conceived as a means for Dell to facilitate a broad public dialogue around design opportunities and trade-offs regarding environmentally-responsible design (including the entire lifecycle of computing technologies & products). The team set rigorous requirements for the competition, and had more than 500 design students and professionals from across the globe participate. The jury of six internationally respected sustainable design experts worked independently to evaluate and cull the initial range of entries and then assembled in Austin to select the top 5 Finalists.
The finalists represent a broad range of approaches to addressing sustainable design, including extending product life, alternative power, raising awareness to modify behavior and reducing redundancy. The finalists also range in concepts that are practical today to ideas for the future. We applaud the winners for their passion, enthusiasm and creativity.

The community can now view and vote for their favorite single entry of the five finalists. Click on any finalist above to learn more about each submission and get started. Voting will close on May 7th and the final winner will be announced on May 15th.
The jurors, along with many of the universities, stressed the value of this program and also universally praised Dell for leading this competition. There is a strong desire for Dell to continue to use its stature to drive these discussions and to continue to lead in this area.
We’re also kicking off voting in the Facebook-Graffiti competition, which produced 4,889 illustrations and around 2,700 text entries.
Select Facebook-Graffiti entries are being featured as part of an online showcase highlighting different perspectives on ‘green.’ Some are also being featured in promotional vehicles inviting the community to take action. Members of the community can vote for their favorite entries (multiple opportunities to vote) through April 30, at which time ReGeneration.org and Graffiti will select the winners from the top 150 entries.
“This is called ” Welcome to Green City”. The city has a eco system..the time is not too much ahead in the future as you can see there are some buildings not too futuristic…U might notice the middle two buildings has a cone tree shape, it’s a reminder to understand the value of trees…btw that car is a hybrid, if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be allowed in Green City.”
