The adoption of cloud and mobility has unleashed new levels of business productivity, but as these workplace trends take hold and employees work in new, different ways, and using tools such as the cloud or mobile devices, employers are increasingly concerned about security, and increasing cost and complexity.
Desktop virtualization has become a compelling way to securely deliver apps and data from the data center to the endpoint among organizations of all sizes. When we talk to customers – especially smaller organizations – about desktop virtualization, they worry that it will be too complex or expensive for them to deploy and manage in their environment without specialist IT staff.
Last July, we simplified the process of setting up a virtual desktop infrastructure with the launch of the Dell Appliance for Wyse – vWorkspace for Microsoft Hyper-V enabling organizations to gain all the advantages of desktop and application virtualization with an appliance in a private cloud. Now, six months later, we are thrilled to announce the next generation of the appliance with increased scalability to 5,000 users and cost-effective pricing, starting at $270 per user to use Application Delivery and $320 per user to do full-blown virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Organizations can start small and stay small with one or two appliances, or start small and grow seamlessly by simply adding more appliances. What’s more, the solution is still quick and easy to deploy with the ‘quick start tool’, a configuration wizard enabling fast deployment of new virtual desktops in about two hours – VDI specialists are not required.
The Dell Appliance for Wyse – vWorkspace is based on Dell Wyse vWorkspace desktop virtualization software. Last month, we announced some enhancements to the software that will be made available on the appliance in spring 2016. Updated features include:
- Accelerated deployment of Windows 10 endpoints, bringing full support for any end point running on the Windows 10 Operating System.
- Incremental support for Microsoft RDP8, allowing for better graphics performance when using endpoints not running on Windows.
- The ability for more end-users to connect in their native language with the addition of French, German, Spanish and traditional Chinese interfaces, in addition to already existing Japanese, simplified Chinese and Korean capabilities.
- The ability to provision a single virtual image that provides a virtual desktop environment for multiple users through Microsoft Azure.
