Today kicks off the first day of Cisco Live and I will be live blogging the opening keynote with John Chambers. It will definitely be an exciting keynote.

The Cisco keynote just started with a video on the Internet of Everything. Showing several examples of how the Internet is going to evolve according to Cisco. Some very compelling examples are part of the video.

Blair discusses that there will be 190 exabytes of mobile traffic on the Internet by 2016. She discusses how the 10 million connected cars will be rolled out by BMW beginning next year. There will also be 50 billion things connected to the Internet by next year.

John Chambers takes the stage, it’s his 23 Cisco Live and 19th year as CEO of Cisco. John is discussing the rate of change growing exponentially in IT. Talking about the fact that many companies will have to change their business models quicker than ever.

The Nexus 9000 ASICs were developed in 14 months, twice as fast as usual, and things are accelerating still!
Chambers shows a slide with many of Cisco’s old competitors that are out of business. Says Cisco needs to change and it will change. Says that Cisco’s customers will need to change as well. They will need to embrace the Internet of Everything.

Chambers is discussing the Application Centric Infrastructure, it’s a consistent policy of cloud, WAN, and data center.

Chambers says that ACI simplifies process and saves money and that Cisco will lead SDN. He states that ACI is 75% of TCO savings vs plain SDN.

Chambers: Competition in the future is “white label” boxes.
He’s stating that ACI has an advantage because of custom + merchant ASICs.

Chambers says that Cisco will lead in collaboration by making their products simpler to use. By making real self-learning networks and improving security architectures.
He wants to combine customer’s clouds together and become number one in clouds.
Chambers calls up Jim Grubb to do a demo of the Internet of Everything. The demo is about transportation. Its about connecting the trains, the platform, the data center, the tracks and more.

The demo is showing how using fog computing and ACI can be used to more efficiently use the trains, tracks and stations. He is showing how he can communicate with customers and help them buy tickets, and steer customers to the right places to improve satisfaction.
He is also showing off the new Telepresence “Touch” DX-80.

Chambers says that the Internet of Everything is not about just connecting everything, it’s about innovation and using it in a usable way.

Shell EVP, CIO, Alan Matula, now takes the stage with John Chambers to discuss how they’re using the Internet of Everything.
Mr. Matula is talking about the fact that to be innovative you have to “support failure” and always look for new ways of doing things.
Shell uses sensors in their shale drilling and uses command centers in central offices to control the drill bits since that is where their experts are located.
Shell also uses Cisco technology to improve their security posture since that is one of their most important requirements.

John brings up the CIO of The Weather Company, Bryson Koehler, to discuss how he uses big data to predict the weather.
