This week from Milan Italy, EMC announced new storage, software and partner solutions that we believe will unleash the power of flash and revolutionize midrange storage.
Not coincidentally, the 2013 Formula One Gran Premio D’Italia is happening this weekend at the Autodromo di Monza near Milan. So, in the spirit of the race, EMC’s Flash Products Division is excited to announce that we are “turbocharging” applications with the release of XtremSW Cache 2.0.

Performance tests show XtremSW Cache nearly doubling OLTP performance in an Oracle Database 11gR2 environment virtualized with VMware vSphere 5.0. XtremSW Cache now supports transparent vMotion, including automatic failover. Local flash appears as a shared resource across a cluster – designed so that VMware vCenter features like Distributed Resource Scheduler for clusters, High Availability, and Site Recovery Manager for replication will work seamlessly.
Array Integration
With the next generation VNX Series, users can now manage XtremSW Cache 2.0 directly from Unisphere, which recommends LUNS to accelerate based upon intelligent trending analysis. Interoperability, Support and More Interoperability
XtremSW Cache can now be used with any server flash hardware, whether it’s an SSD or a PCIe card—even from “the competition”. IBM AIX environments are now supported, specifically with Power 7 servers running AIX 6.1 and 7.1.
Of course power without control is useless, so we are delivering additional new features with XtremSW Cache 2.0 to help customers harness the raw power of server-based flash.
Control and Efficiency
Cached data can be managed from the all-new XtremSW Management Center, which gives users greater control and efficiency. Multiple XtremSW Cache instances can be managed from a single console, which contains environment health and performance dashboards. eData, a transaction processing services provider for consumer finance companies is an EMC XtremSW Cache 2.0 customer, and had this to say about the new software:
“XtremSW Management Center is a huge leap forward. It allows us to view multiple XtremSW Cache instances from a single pane, clearly showing the performance gains we’re achieving and providing proof that the software is really working. I particularly like that we can easily launch it directly from Unisphere for VNX”.
Management Center’s Environment, Health, and Performance Dashboards
Later this year, we plan to release support for Oracle RAC. This will enable active-active shared storage in an Oracle environment using a distributed cache coherency algorithm.
