Check Out How Dell Interns Spent Their Summer

This summer, over 400 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed interns descended upon Dell Headquarters to spend 12 weeks making their mark in the information technology space. From supply chain to finance to engineering and marketing, we’re bringing you stories about some of the things they did while they were here.

“My experience at Dell was the best transition I would have imagined from my studies to the professional life,” Cesibel Castillo (below) shared.

Between semesters in Duke University’s Masters of Engineering management program, she focused on sales strategy and planning within the Latin American region while she was here. “Being able to work with an extraordinary team that made me one of them from the beginning, empowered me to seek for the best solutions for my project,” she said.

Derek Nalodka shared his takeaways from interacting with full-time Dell employees:

“My internship experience at Dell this summer blew all my expectations out of the water. I’ve noticed that the most successful people at Dell are those with a drive to take whatever initiative it may be into their own hands and independently push for results.”

Nalodka exercised drive himself by participating in the Most Influential Intern blogging contest where he came in third place. Check out his blog or start at the beginning of his series here.

Dell’s open door policy served Marketing Intern Calvin Mack well during his project to analyze and recommend improvements to improve online conversation rates.

“The best part of the project was that it led to follow up conversations with key stakeholders to discuss how we could implement some of my recommendations once I leave and return back to school,” he said. “Dell expects you to solve real problems that the company is looking to tackle and you can tell that everyone is invested in your work and values your insight. The company expects a lot from its employees but everyone is very supportive and willing to lend a hand to help.”

Even the team in the center of the largest technology integration in history invited interns to participate.

“This summer I worked in the Value Creation and Integration Office (VCIO) on the largest tech acquisition in history,” Nichole Jensen said. “I had opportunities to learn about both project and financial management through several of my projects and given roles.”

She also mentioned the support she received from her manager and guidance on how she could make an impact in a company of 100,000+ and growing:

“Through her management, the mentorship I received from multiple employees at Dell, and the friendships I gained – this internship has really been one to never forget!”

Finance Intern Alif Momin also got a bird’s eye view into the $67 billion deal, noting that he was able to see how all of Dell’s functions, from HR to Supply Chain to Finance work together.

“This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m lucky to have worked on the acquisition as an intern. I have made an impact on the long-term vision and goals of the company with the VCIO,” Momin said.

In her first foray into the information technology field, Trista Szocs described her internship as “filled with challenge and lots of learning.”

She shared:

“I came from a non-tech and non-corporate background, but learned so much with the support of people here. My project received really positive feedback and my recommendation is currently being implemented on the team! It’s exciting to see my suggestions being used and presented to other teams.”
