A Simple, Common Experience for Our Storage Customers

Whew…It’s time to take a deep breath.  We just completed the largest merger in the history of technology by combining Dell and EMC.  We couldn’t be more enthusiastic about helping our customers take advantage of our better together strategy and we have some exciting news on that front.

As Guy previously mentioned in his midrange blog, we are fully committed to our SC Series and Unity Systems entry & midrange solutions, and for our customers a big part of our value is in providing them with a common software experience.

As I mentioned in our recent announcement, this will enable our SC Series customers to continue using the products they’ve invested in while also having access to exciting new capabilities as Dell continues to integrate our storage solutions into a seamless portfolio.

The result is we’re enabling customers to mix and match legacy Dell and EMC storage products in their environments while providing a common user experience with the same storage management, data protection and mobility capabilities across our line-up.

SC software support extends across our expansive software portfolio, including:

Management & Mobility

From a management perspective, ViPR controller software, part of our ViPR Suite is available and integrates the SC Series of products into the automated insight and action designed for heterogeneous arrays. Our Intelligent Data Mobility (IDM) offering, which enables a smooth and seamless migration to newer systems at a fixed proportional rate, is also extended to support the SC Series.

SC Series is also supported by VPLEX which not only brings high availability but best-in-class data migration and virtualization.  Also included, EMC CloudArray, which extends high-performance storage arrays with cost-effective cloud capacity by providing access to private or public cloud storage.

SC Series support is also planned for ViPR Storage Resource Management (SRM), also part of ViPR Suite, and our high performance, high-availability PowerPath multipath software, by the end of 2016.

Data Protection

In addition, Dell’s industry-leading data protection solutions welcomes the SC Series with open arms – Data Domain, which according to IDC EMC pre-merger was the industries number one Purpose Built Backup Appliance[i], enables deduplicated backup of data on an SC arrays while Avamar and Networker packaged in the Data Protection Suite for backup offer high performing backup and recovery for SC arrays. RecoverPoint for VM’s also support SC Series – RP4VM’s is powerful VM-based replication software which enables storage-agnostic data movement at the virtual machine level.

 Bottom Line

With our new extended support for SC Series storage, Dell can deliver industry-leading products to customers of all sizes to automate storage management, provisioning and mobility across legacy Dell and EMC storage platforms. SC Series customers also gain access to industry-leading data protection technologies designed to protect business-critical data and applications from outages and enable customers to manage, visualize performance and capacity, analyze configurations for compliance and plan for expected growth. Dell and EMC have always taken care of their customers and now together, Dell and EMC will provide the industry’s best storage technologies to even more customers.

We’re just getting started, so look forward to more news as we continue to expand our common software experience.
