Reengineering the Service Provider Ecosystem

Last week, I jumped into a conference room at EMC headquarters and recorded a few thoughts on the challenges facing the telco industry and what I’m hoping to learn about service providers while at Mobile World Congress next week in Barcelona, Spain.

Mobile World Congress is the biggest and most prestigious telco and service provider event of the year.  It reflects how big the ecosystem is.  It’s quite exciting because almost every player in the world, both executives and technical team members, converge in one place to understand how the industry is evolving going forward.

Service providers are struggling with a fundamental problem: revenue is not growing as fast as costs.  In order to get out of this cycle, they have to reinvent themselves.

That said, there are some differences between what telco and service providers are now experiencing and what enterprises went

through a couple of years ago.
