Understanding Feature Requirements for Carrier Grade MEC

Petasus 5G MEC Platform provides a unique multi-access edge computing (MEC) solution for service providers looking to transform their network.

Communication service providers (CSPs) are eager to evolve and transform their network to 5G in order to capture new business opportunities offered by enhanced mobile broad band (eMBB), ultra-reliable and low latency communications (URLLC) and massive machine type Communication (mMTC).

MEC also offers opportunities for CSPs to monetize 5G to drive digital transformation across many industry verticals.

Petasus 5G MEC 2.0 provides significant enhancements to the current platform

Today’s announcement of Petasus 5G MEC 2.0 provides a major upgrade to its platform software from MEC 1.0 that was released in 2020. These new feature enhancements are crucial to provide a carrier grade experience for customers and CSPs.

Petasus 5G MEC 2.0 introduced EdgeStack, that is a cloud stack for edge environments, where services are distributed across multiple sites but with a smaller scale than a central data center. EdgeStack is designed with a lightweight cloud architecture, which requires compact control nodes closer to the data source. However, EdgeStack supports large scale deployment and carrier grade high availability for enterprise level cloud services.

Petasus 5G MEC 2.0 eases collaboration

The Petasus 5G MEC development team is collaborating closely with GSMA, ETSI who shapes MEC requirements globally, so that the platform is natively developed to align with ETSI MEC reference architecture at an interface level.

The latest release is also verified with LTE/5G network nodes provided by major network equipment providers in the 3GPP standard network interfaces and has been deployed in the Korean market for commercial usage. It is also capable of integrating with legacy OSS/BSS systems through easy-to-use APIs.

Petasus 5G MEC 2.0 easily integrates with AWS Wavelength and it will support full life cycle management of AWC cloud with MEC platform UI in future releases.

Petasus 5G MEC as a real solution for CSPs

Petasus 5G MEC 2.0 enables CSPs to meet carrier grade requirements like performance, capacity, high availability and security. It also eases integration of MEC into existing systems with minimum impact to business process and operations. In addition, it ensures the service orchestration and life cycle management required to ensure interworking with legacy systems in the network.

The differentiators of Petasus 5G MEC are derived from the unique background of the development environment, created by a telecom operator who really understands the challenges and the requirements of CSPs. With Petasus 5G MEC 2.0, CSPs can accelerate integration of a MEC into their network.
