Introducing New Greener, BFR/PVC-free Business Laptop and Desktop

Topics in this article

One of the key focus areas
for end-user computing is delivering great products with customer-inspired design.

As part of that design
standard, Dell continues to enhance its award-winning OptiPlex desktops and Latitude laptops.  We are now offering brominated flame retardant free (BFR-free) and polyvinyl chloride free (PVC-free) OptiPlex small form factor (SFF) and Latitude configurations
as we move toward full
elimination of those substances. The new systems also are delivered in
recyclable packaging.

The new OptiPlex 990 family (includes the mini-tower, desktop, small-form
factor and ultra-small form factor chassis) represents the most powerful, most
manageable and “greenest” commercial desktops we’ve ever offered.

As a quick side note, DesktopReview.com just
gave another member of the OptiPlex family, the
OptiPlex
990 USFF (ultra small form factor), an “Editor’s Choice” award
, noting
its small/solid design and cool/quiet operation.

All newly launched OptiPlex
systems have a minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled plastic in their
enclosures, offer highly efficient power supply options and are shipped in
recyclable packaging. And now with the ability to configure the Dell OptiPlex 990
SFF as BFR/PVC-free in select countries, organizations can further reduce their
environmental impact.

In addition to representing
Dell’s most environmentally responsible commercial desktop offering, OptiPlex
990 SFF offers 2nd generation Intel processors, featuring business-class
control with Intel vPro remote management technology and full compatibility with
Dell
KACE
system management
appliances.

Our Latitude
E6420 business notebook also offers a BFR/PVC free configuration and features a
mercury free LED display with arsenic-free display glass. Similar to the OptiPlex 990, the Latitude E6420
has a 5.0 Energy Star® rating, which means it uses energy-efficient power
supplies and has advanced power-management features enabled. This level of
efficiency helps organizations save energy and associated cost.

Additionally, the  Latitude E6420 offers  world-class design with durability based on
hard-wearing MIL-STD 810G tested Tri-Metal casing and is part of the most
secure family of notebooks we’ve ever offered with Dell Data Protection, Remote Data Delete and hard drive Free Fall Sensor.  The system features leading performance with
options of second-generation Intel quad core processing, discrete graphics and
multi-touch displays.

Reviews of the new Latitude
family, including the E6420, have been fantastic. Some highlights include the
following:

  • PC Magazine noted the E6420 “has everything that an enterprise user is looking for in a
    business laptop.
  • LAPTOP Magazine said the system was “a great choice for business users.”
  • PC Word said the E6420 delivers “all
the power you’d want in a business laptop plus outstanding battery life
    .”
