The 2012 Techonomy conference in Tucson from Nov. 11 to 13 promises to be one of the more interesting executive-level technology conferences of the year. One of the most interesting angles or themes at this year’s conference is how innovators around the globe are actually using Big Data and applying data science to solve global problems and increase the value that their enterprises create.
Techonomy will livestream plenary sessions and post excerpts of panel sessions. Here are the highlights:
Anyone who has only heard the hype about Big Data but has yet to see the impact should tune in on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4:15 pm (Mountain Time) when Rick Smolan, of Against All Odds Productions, shares stories gathered from around the world through The Human Face of Big Data project sponsored by EMC.
Smolan’s talk follows a session at 1:00 pm (Mountain Time) on Data: The New Science, where Annika Jimenez, Senior Director of Data Science at Greenplum, along with Greenplum’s Michael Howard and Bill Schmarzo, CTO, Enterprise Information Management Practice, EMC Consulting, will share how businesses (both traditional and new digital business models) are leveraging predictive, real time, Big Data analytics in transformative ways, and how all this is different from traditional data warehousing and business intelligence. Joining them will be Andrew McAfee, principal research scientist at MIT Sloan School’s Center for Digital Business.
On Monday, Nov. 12 at 9:40 am (Mountain Time), Techonomy host, journalist and author David Kirkpatrick interviews EMC Chairman & CEO Joe Tucci.
Also on Monday, at 1:30 pm (Mountain Time), RSA Executive Chairman Art Coviello will participate in a session on avoiding cyber warfare, which some national security experts have called the most urgent security threat facing the U.S. today.
