Mobile Apps: Driving Customer Satisfaction with Containers and Kubernetes

Delivering compelling customer experiences for mobile applications in a multi-cloud architecture with Dell Technologies and VMware Tanzu.

The world is more connected than ever. That is largely due to the ubiquity of mobile devices and the networks that deliver services to them. Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are the local presence that provide network services enabling mobile devices. Revenue and profits for MNOs hinge on acquiring customers, providing them with compelling services, reducing customer churn and avoiding losses from credit risk.

TIMWETECH is an enabler of digital services for Mobile Network Operators. A global company with offices worldwide, TIMWETECH provides business to business to consumer (B2B2C), digital marketing and fintech services that enable MNOs to manage the entire customer lifecycle and drive customer satisfaction with compelling services for their mobile devices.

Software is a key enabling technology for TIMWETECH and is how they deliver services for telecom operators across the globe. Modern apps, built and delivered with containers and orchestrated by Kubernetes, enable TIMWETECH to create unique, superior and engaging experiences for their customers. Delivering that software across the globe requires leveraging multiple public cloud platforms as well as massive private infrastructure running in their own datacenters – a classic multi-cloud challenge. Managing applications in a multi-cloud environment presents huge challenges for teams that must work across different geographies and cloud providers, each of which have unique requirements. TIMWETECH solved those challenges with solutions from VMware and Dell Technologies.

The development teams at TIMWETECH experimented with pure open-source distributions but quickly realized that snowflake configurations and unique customizations understood by only a few highly specialized experts created immense complexity and inefficiencies. They did an evaluation and decided to standardize on VMware Tanzu to leverage their existing skill sets and extensive experience with VMware for their data center virtualization. Dell Technologies provides the infrastructure to run VMware Tanzu in their data centers in an architecture which is compatible with public clouds. This has allowed TIMWETECH to take advantage of agile workload placement to optimize application latency while complying with local regulations. Ultimately, they have created an umbrella solution which allows them to control application security and enforce policy governance in a multi-cloud architecture.

Joe Baguley VP, Chief Technology Officer – VMware EMEA recently had a conversation with Rui Alexandre Ferreira, Director of IT at TIMWETECH where they discuss the challenges faced and solution they architected with the help of Dell and VMware. This quick 10 minute video is a great way to gain insights into the effort. This discussion was part of a longer web event called Join the IT Revolution: Modernizing Your Application Infrastructure with Dell Technologies and VMware Tanzu Solutions.
