VMworld is a perfect reminder of how great it is to be a part of the Dell Technologies family. It’s extremely difficult to imagine the cloud-centric, software-defined world we live in without VMware. It’s been just over two years since Dell and VMware became part of the Dell Technologies family of brands, and increasingly we (and customers) are realizing the benefits.
More than four years ago, Dell challenged the industry status quo with Open Networking, decoupling the fundamental hardware and software buildings blocks to give customers unprecedented choice and flexibility, from the data center to the edge. We’re continuing to push the envelope of innovation in Open Networking, as evidenced by our placement as a Visionary on the 2018 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Center Networking. Together with VMware, we have the ability to drive even more innovation and choice – and that means better business outcomes for customers.
Take, for example, our Open Networking solutions paired with VMware NSX to deliver the most capable solutions for the software-defined data center. There’s our Virtual Edge Platform family paired with VMware VeloCloud delivering an industry-leading SD-WAN solution. These examples are the definition of Better Together, and it doesn’t stop there.
Today, we announced Fabric Design Center to simplify HCI deployments, providing turnkey network fabrics for VxRail. This network design customization and configuration tool accelerates time to value for VxRail, automates network deployment, offers faster time to production for VxRail clusters, and provides a network fabric that is sized specifically for the environment and is interoperable. Along with Fabric Design Center we offer a complete portfolio of scalable networking solutions for VxRail appliances as well as Validated Deployment Guides, Open Networking for a choice of OS and industry standard features to ensure interoperability and investment protection. It’s hyperconvergence made simpler.
We also recently announced the Z9264F-ON fabric 100GbE switch. Combined with either Dell or partner software, this solution enables highly flexible and capable physical network infrastructure. In modern data centers, the physical networks are unified with virtual networks to connect virtual machines and containers and to form a software-defined data center. To achieve this, we partner closely with the VMware NSX to streamline costs and operations. VMware’s vision of an end-to-end Virtual Cloud Network depends on high-performing cost-effective underlying infrastructure, and the Z9264F-ON is a key enabler.
We’re also bringing Open Networking to PowerEdge MX, Dell’s latest modular infrastructure solution. Through this offering we’re delivering cost-effective 25GbE and 32G FC connectivity, multi-chassis Scalable Fabric architecture, and Dell Networking OS10. With PowerEdge MX switches we can deliver 500% more switch fabric capacity versus previous modular architectures, and a 55% reduction in fabric switching latency versus previous version. And with today’s announcement of vSAN Ready Nodes for PowerEdge MX, we’re further extending the capabilities of the software-defined data center as only Dell and VMware can do.
