Two weeks ago I blogged on research conducted by Technology Business Research (TBR) showing the measurable impact HP’s PC business news is having on its customers. Yesterday, Dell announced similar findings from IDG Research Services that also looks at the impact recent HP moves are having on enterprise customers. The study found that two-thirds of current or potential HP customers with more than 500 employees are concerned by HP’s changes in business strategy and leadership.
The research also validated the importance enterprise customers place on working with vendors who offer solutions that span the spectrum of their needs in the organization. Forty-five percent of respondents expressed that it is important to work with technology vendors who can offer comprehensive end-to-end solutions – in other words, HP’s decision to eliminate their PC division would have a negative impact on nearly half of its customer base.
Between one-third and one-half of respondents reported that they are considering new or additional vendors for PCs and servers when asked about the impact of HP’s news on their purchasing plans. Regarding PCs specifically, 49 percent said they are considering new or additional vendors.
Customers Turning to Dell
IDG Research Services’ report also indicates that Dell would be the greatest beneficiary if HP decides to discontinue its PC business with nearly 80 percent of those surveyed indicating that Dell would be their top vendor of choice followed by IBM and Lenovo with 49 percent and Apple with 12 percent. I believe this is a direct reflection of the strength of Dell’s commitment to its customers and in turn, our customers’ trust in Dell’s strategy and solutions.
Dell’s commitment to customers and its long-term strategy to deliver end-to-end solutions from the desktop to the data center to the cloud remains stronger than ever. For enterprises looking for a stable, reliable partner to help them navigate today’s ever-changing IT environment, the answer is Dell. I encourage you to read Dell’s end-user promise and learn how Dell is uniquely positioned to support the widest range of IT needs.
