Dell Networking Continues to Advance the Future-Ready Agenda

It’s been said that change is the only constant. Organizations of all sizes are becoming increasingly connected and taking advantage of routes to quicker, easier, richer communication and collaboration. At Dell we are leading the changing market with software-defined data center technologies and new infrastructure hardware designs to deliver a superior “Future Ready” approach that preserves all of the benefits of our virtualization and consolidation efforts of the past half-decade while simultaneously supporting new IT architectures with open, hyperscale-inspired efficiency.

In keeping with our recognition in the industry as an innovative, disruptive and visionary networking vendor, today we are proudly announcing the expansion of our networking portfolio with new solutions to help simplify wired and wireless networking in the campus and new Open Networking capabilities in the data center.

First, we are expanding our One Networking strategy for the campus with the introduction of an integrated wired and wireless solution.  Dell Networking’s N-Series L2/L3 switches are now fully integrated with Aerohive access points and HiveManager NG, giving customers a next-generation cloud-based (public and private) network management capability for both wired and wireless campus environments backed by Dell’s global services organization.

Next, we continue to push the envelope of Open Networking with several announcements. Dell is excited to announce our contribution to the new Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) part of the Open Compute Project (OCP) where our OS10 Open Edition software will serve as a foundational element. We see this effort as an important step in providing customers with open sourced components necessary to build full-functional networking software on Linux.

We are also very excited in announcing the start of our OS10 software ecosystem with the addition of several partners including F5, Ansible and SilverPeak.  Here is what they have to say:

“Since OS10 runs in a native Linux environment, integrating it with the Ansible Tower is very straightforward. Customers can now seamlessly and rapidly deploy Dell switches into their automated IT environment reducing operational costs while also enabling server like agility in configuration management.”

– Tim Cramer, Senior Director of Ansible Engineering, Red Hat

“Dell OS10 programmability enables unique partner solutions for datacenter network fabric.  Optimizing OS10 for F5’s Application Delivery Controller infrastructure not only offers tighter integration between network and compute, but also reduces power and cooling related operating costs.”

– Jeff Bellamy, Senior Director Business Development, F5 Networks

“OS10 represents the future of open networking in the data center. Direct integration of Silver Peak’s Edge Connect SD-WAN with OS10 illustrates the value of open software and the ease with which customers can combine best-of-breed solutions into their network infrastructure.”

– Ron Muralt, SilverPeak Vice President, Product Management

Finally, we are proud to announce the availability of two new Open Networking top-of-rack switching platforms, the S4048T-ON 10G copper switch and the S6010-ON 10/40GbE switch. Both of these new switches will help customers meet growing connectivity demands and take advantage of the latest in silicon features.

In the world of technology, change is inevitable. However, here at Dell we strongly believe that change should also be beneficial for our customers. Beneficial like simplifying wired/wireless infrastructure for end-user networking. Beneficial like enhancing choice of disaggregated networking hardware/software. And finally, beneficial like enhancing connectivity and capabilities.
