Whether passing through an airport, shopping at a mall, utilizing public transportation or walking the streets of a large, metropolitan city, a person can’t help but take notice of all the surveillance cameras hanging on walls, neatly tucked into the ceilings or glistening on top of a traffic light or city pole. Broadly speaking, video surveillance is just one element of a complex and growing security ecosystem that includes physical security, environmental security, data protection, cyber threat management, and identity and access control management.
Today, EMC announces new solutions and capabilities and the global expansion of its video surveillance validation labs. We’re also proud to announce expanded partnerships and the completion of lab testing and validation with leading physical security distributors and video management software providers including Axis, Genetec, Milestone and Verint.
Video surveillance is the largest and fastest-growing component of the physical security industry, helping protect people, facilities, assets, and information against deliberate or accidental threats. According to a Sept. 2014 study by IHS Technology, sales of video surveillance equipment are forecasted to grow from about $15 billion in 2013 to $26 billion in 2018. This growth is fueled by an escalating concern for security within all forms of government, an exponential increase in camera feeds, and the market’s rapid transition from analog video surveillance solutions to networked IP-based video surveillance solutions.
Open and flexible “edge to core” (camera to central processing) solutions are emerging as the type of platform required to allow rapid adaptation to changing industry requirements and trends. These trends give security practitioners greatly improved capabilities to effectively and reliably detect threats at an early stage to deter and contain crime, support chain-of-evidence procedures, and meet governance requirements.
Open and Flexible Platform
EMC announces the availability of new purpose-built storage products, including the newVNX Video Surveillance Storage array, VNX-VSS, for highly distributed “edge” environments. For “core” environments, EMC Isilon has new performance and multi-protocol “Data Lake” features that improve consolidation of cameras and accelerate high-resolution workflows, dramatically improving cost of ownership. Together, these solutions help future-proof and enable an open and cost-effective platform to flexibly capture, store, transport, and analyze surveillance video.

Validated and Proven
Today, EMC is announcing increased capacity and capability of the company’s dedicated global labs for test and validation of video surveillance solutions. These EMC Proven lab validations with key partners are accompanied by extensive documentation to simplify deployment of a video surveillance solution and reduce time to productivity for customers.
Global Partnerships
EMC has also announced expanded partnerships with Ingram Micro, Avnet, and Scansource to carry the EMC VNX-VSS and Isilon platforms as part of their video surveillance solution portfolio. Also, announced today are Axis, Genetec, Milestone, and Verint, industry-leading VMS providers, who have all certified their software on EMC’s edge-to-core video surveillance platforms further helping customers simplify their operations.
