我们可以从产品(销售)形态和业务目标市场两个角度来更进一步的理解CTD的业务范畴，以产品角度来说，以VMAX、VNX、Data Domain，甚至是XtremIO为代表的CTD的核心产品，主要以“软件+硬件”的整合方式进行销售，按照CTD的产品营销全球副总裁Matt Waxman所说的，是“按照客户喜欢的一揽子的方案的产品”来销售的。

以业务目标市场来说，CTD的主要产品都是围绕着现代的、核心的企业级业务领域进行开发和销售的，换句话说，就是以那些仍然以Oracle或其他关系型数据库为核心的企业为目标客户的，即便是在发布初期VDI客户数量占比极多的XtremIO来说也一样如此——在发布之后半年，按照XtremIO的CTO任宇翔的话说，“核心数据库的用户比例已经回到了一个很高的而且是正常的范畴之内”。

Emerging technology division

As mentioned in the earlier part of the series, EMC (EMC) has reorganized its operations into two divisions. The emerging technology division encompasses EMC’s Isilon scale-out NAS technology, ViPR software-defined storage technology, and DSSD. The DSSD acquisition let EMC focus on developing rack-scale, server-side flash storage technology. Products like ScaleIO, hybrid cloud gateways, HPC storage, and ViPR will be part of the emerging technology division. CloudScaling will be integrated into this division.

Core technology division

EMC’s core technology division now includes three of the company’s former divisions: enterprise, mid-range systems, and data protection and availability. XtremIO all-flash storage array has now shifted from the emerging technology division to the core technology division. The company intends to promote XtremIO along with every VMAX and VNX sale.
