Setting up wireless internet

Question

I am waiting to get my new dll notebook and currently have a Dell desktop ( that was purchased in 02) I live at home and my bedroom is in the basement. There are no outlets for me hook up internet and I was thinking about getting wireless. We have broadband through qwest and I was told that i can just purchase a wireless router to connect to it to get the wireless internet on my notebook. Does that sound correct? Also what do I need to get wireless on my desktop?   I appreciate all of the help with this.....:)

I had a similar problem. I fixed it by ourchasing a Neatgear Rangemax x WPN824 wireless router. Does the job perfectly. Had it nearly a year without a problem. In fact, for my connection, I get a range of some 500 meters so be careful and add your laptop MAC adress. As for the desktop, this is in my sons room and looking at connecting it up to a wireless USB transmitter. Not sure which one but shopping around now. Hope this helps.

yes, you need to have a wireless router. the connection should be (qwest>wireless router) then make sure there is no interferrence coz signals maybe weak.

What would be classified as a interferrence?

devices that can interfere wireless signals : mobile phones other electronic device like TV, Radio, just make sure that when you are connected using wireless make sure its 5 bars. range is also a factor.
