Intel has quietly indicated that the next-generation dual-core Atom processor will ship this September.

 

인텔은 이번 9월달부터 차세대 듀얼-코어 아톰 프로세서가 시장에 풀리게 될 것이라고 전했다.

 

As part of a press release announcing the desktop D945GCLF2 motherboard this week, Intel appeared to confirm that the corresponding Atom 330 dual-core chip will also be available then. However, Intel did not disclose the chip's price or clock speed.

 

데스크탑용 D945GCLF2마더보드의 이번주 출시를 알림에 따라, 인텔은 아톰 330 듀얼-코어 프로세서를 그에 따라 접할 수 있다고 말한 셈이라고 할 수 있다. 하지만, 인텔은 프로세서의 가격이나 클럭은 언급하지 않았다.

 

Intel representatives confirmed Thursday that the dual-core Atom will ship in September as well.

 

목요일엔 인텔 직원들도 듀얼-코어 아톰 프로세서가 9월달에 풀릴 것임을 확인시켜 주었다.

 

The new Atom's features include a 533-MHz system bus. It will connect to the Intel 945GC Express chipset, which includes the Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics core. A single DIMM socket on the board will support up to 2 Gbytes of DDR2 667/533 memory.

 

새로운 아톰 프로세서의 기능들 중 하나는 533MHz 시스템 버스를 지원한다는 것이다. 그건 GMA 950 내장 그래픽 프로세서가 탑재된 945GC 통합 칩셋과 궁합을 맞춘다는 얘기이다. 마더보드에 탑재되는 1개의 DIMM소켓은 최대 2GB의 DDR2 667/533 메모리를 지원한다.

 

The Atom has enjoyed surprising success, as Intel has unexpectedly tapped into a market hungry for inexpensive notebooks and desktops capable of running the Web's basic building blocks, such as Flash. At the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) this week, Anand Chandrasekher, senior vice president and general manager of Intel Corporation's Ultra Mobility Group, showed off a 1080p video playing back on an OQO Mobile Internet Device (MID). But the Atom could also use some additional horsepower: Chandrasekher also showed off World of Warcraft running on a MID, albeit choppily, and using a simple scene.

Atom is also one of the few Intel processors that bridges the gap between desktops and mobile devices. "Atom is a fundamental building block that goes into all of these market segments," Chandrasekher said, in describing the Atom's market appeal.

Pankaj Kedia, Intel's director for global ecosystem programs for Mobile Internet Devices, said that, over time, the content consumption of current MID users will shift to providing more content, such as video. Kedia also said he's confident other, more performance-drivn applications will rear their head. "The need for performance continues to grow over time," he said.

The D945GCLF2 motherboard includes a PCI and IDE expansion slot, support for two ATA 100/66 devices, HD Audio, eight USB 2.0 ports, and two Serial ATA connections.

Intel also announced four desktop motherboards: the DG45ID and DG45FC, which include support for the Intel Core 2 processor and Intel G45 chipset, Intel HD Video and Dolby Home Theater; and the DG43NB and DP43TF Classic, with support for Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad chips.
