Dell Printer 924 will not scan with windows 7 desktop

and I have a Dell printer 924 with Windows 7 on my desktop. I have repeatedly installed and uninstalled the driver for the printer, but each time I try to scan, the scan goes half way then I get 'scan was not successful' message. Any suggestions as to how to resolve?
