XPS Laptop not booting
XPS 15 9520
Hey there,
So I work for an IT Dept and had a user say their laptop ( XPS 15 9520) had bluescreened. Went and grabbed it and whilst I didn't write down the bluescreen i'm 99% certain it said 'CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT'
Brought it back. Held down power to reboot; and now it wont boot. I get the Dell logo and 'Secured with Dell SafeBIOS' and that's it.
Tried holding down power for 30 secs, with and without AC connected. Tried F12 - says loading one time boot menu or something similar and I get a progress bar at the bottom that fills somewhere around a 1/4 to a 1/3 up and then sits there.
Trying to get into BIOS is pretty much the same, except the message in top right is different.
Left it running until battery went flat and then left it for a it. Plugged AC in, same thing, no change.
Figured i'd take bottom off and disconnect the battery, but I cant as one of the screws was clearly put in by the bloody hulk and i've ground the head nearly smooth trying to get it to budge with no luck.
Any thoughts or advice? It's out of warranty by about 15 months so that's a no-go.
Any help appreciated :-)
Cheers :-)

Unfortunately, you've confirmed a bad system board.

You're going to need to disconnect the battery from the mainboard before proceeding, so you may want to either have a professional remove the stripped screw, or if you want to do that yourself, invest in a screw extractor kit such as:
this one
With the battery disconnected from the mainboard, hold the power button for 30 sec, and remove and reinstall the memory modules. See if the system will then power up and POST on AC only.

Fair, i've just ordered a cheap-ish set of Amazon that looked like it had one small enough. That's due tomorrow so i'll give it a try.

Hey,
So, screw extractors turned up and I managed to get the damn thing out. I've disconnected battery, taken ram out and reseated it. Held power button down for 40 odd seconds. Then plugged AC in (with battery still disconnected) and identical behaviour :-(
Repeated the process again just to be certain, and no change.
Any other thoughts?

@ejn63 Hey there,
That's what I figured the answer would be, but it's good to have it confirmed. Thanks for the advice :-)
