XPS 15 SSD upgrade (2024)
I just bought a 2018 Dell XPS 15 9570 (lntel Core i7-8750H, Geforce GTX 1050Ti, Crucial 2x16 GB DDR 4, Toshiba 512 Gb M.2 NVMe SSD). This laptop will mainly be used for office work and some light gaming. I would like to upgrade the SSD to a Crucial T500 2TB or a Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB. The prices of these SSDs are about the same. Are these the right SSDs our should I consider something else?

Yes, they both are the right type of SSD that will work with the 9570. However, they are the newer, Gen 4 NVMe SSD with very high performance speed, up to 7000 MB/s, but the XPS 9570 supports only PCIe Gen 3 speed, or up to 3500 MB/s. Obviously, you would not want to pay 30 - 40 dollars more for faster speed that you can not use. Unless, you are planning to use it with newer machine in the future.
You may consider to get a 2 TB of Gen 3 NVMe SSD. It can run at system Gen 3 performance but it will cost less than Gen 4 SSD.
A sample SSD selection for comparison.
