XPS 15 9570 fingerprint reader not detected

Hi,

I've recently done a windows update and a Dell BIOS update and now my fingerprint reader is saying that it is disconnected. I've tried updating the Goodix drivers but it says there is no fingerprint reader installed.

Has anyone else had this problem?

You need to install Dell's drivers for the reader.

Reinstalling the drivers-- https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/19/xps-15-9570-laptop/XPS-15-9570-Service_Manual/Downloading-the-fingerprint-reader-driver?guid=GUID-782CEAE4-2E49-4531-9D2B-EFB4D1462EDE&lang=en-us

Reinstall the fingerprint reader-- https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln155141/fingerprint-reader-installation-guide?lang=en

I hope you did not do a windows update and a bios update in the same session. Always do updates separately. rebooting and checking performance each time. Easier to pin down which caused the problem.

I don't recall doing a dell update at the same time as a windows update.

I tried your steps but no luck. When I tried to reinstall the Driver it gave me an error message saying no device is attached. When I tried to reinstall the fingerprint reader it got partway through but did a restart and then wouldn't reboot. It got stuck in a windows repair loop and the only way out of it was to reset my entire laptop.

I solved the riddle after trying other suggestions from this Forum.

Obviously, you must have latest BIOS and software, drivers installed. In my BIOS Intel Software Guard Extensions was disabled. Enabled it with 128MB size. I read here that 64MB would work too.

After restart fingerprint reader still wasn't working. Disabled and enabled Goodix driver in Device Manager. Voila fingerprinter reader working again!

I hope this helps.

Joerg

Dear Experts, I have Dell XPS 9570. My XPS's fingerprint reader suddenly not working during sign-in. I tried the solution stated in the posts like, going to BIOS and ENABLE Intel Goodix. It did not solve my problem. Can anyone please help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Had the same issue on my Dell XPS 9570, in device manager it said “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)”, I assumed that was the missing Fingerprint sensor.

Checked that I had latest bios and enabled Software Guard Extensions, but no success.

I then did then remember that when changing keyboard I had to disconnect the Fingerprint sensor.

Opened laptop, and correctly, my connector was not seated correctly, fixed it, and when booting up the fingerprint sensor showed up.
