XPS 13 Plus 9320, sound not working

XPS 13 Plus 9320

XPS 13 Plus 9320

I just got my new XPS 13 Plus laptop in the mail a couple days ago. Everything was great on the computer until I ran into a sound problem. I connected my bluetooth headphones to the computer. No problems occurred when connecting and listening with my headphones. The problem is when I disconnected the headphones and now I do not have any sound. I would consider my self as a pretty tech savy person, so I went through the process of troubleshooting and could not find a solution. I read some other forums on the Dell website with the same issue but not solution.

Worked for me:

Remove Wave Max Waves Audio Pro
Reinstall realtek Sound Driver (from Dell Page)
Deactivate Sound Enhancements under System -> Sound -> Speaker (Settings)

Before that, disabling audio enhancement alone resulted in NO sound (no system sounds either)

You may be able to reinstall Wave Max afterwards. But I haven't tried it. Useless software.

I think one of the audio "improvements" caused the problem.

This solution with disabling "Enhance audio" worked before, but does not any more with the new update (KB5015732).

What helped for me is

open Dell Command (should be preinstalled, you can find it under "All apps")

then check for updates and install the new Realtek audio driver:

Dell released today in their website the new Realtek audio driver (version 10.0.207)

Find the link here below:

This does not resolve the issue. I believe it's Max Waaves < > Realtek. I've tried several different configs and nothing is working. After the first time turning Enhanced Audio off/on and the audio working, then it stopped again, tells me this is something software related with the Max Waaves utility.

This really needs to be marked *UNSOLVED* until a clear path to resolving is recognized.

I cannot uninstall Maax Waves, anyone know why? Programs & Features uninstall isn't discovering it in the uninstall library.

Will try the new Realtek drivers today and see if I can download, though Windows Update isn't finding them. Attempting the Dell Connect after this next Windows Update.

Not having audio is a HUGE problem and we need Dell support to respond.

I had the same problem. However, the fixes in this forum didn't work for me either. I found another forum on reddit that mentioned that it may have to do with windows sounds (eg. notifications) and that for some reason when a windows sound goes off it may lock the sound card for any other apps besides windows.

What fixed my issue is I typed in change system sounds in the taskbar search bar. In the sounds tab, click on the drop-down menu for sound scheme. Change windows default to no sound.

This will make it so you don't hear notification sounds or similar windows sounds but so far it is stopping the no audio issue in other apps.

Hope this helps

I've been going back and forth with Dell about this issue for months and they just had me test an audio driver that fixed it...finally! Here is a link to the driver. I just simply installed it, rebooted, and had audio without using external speakers for the first time in months!

Not sure if anyone is still having this issue, but we've had a handful of the XPS13's having this same issue.  The fix that worked for me (aside from running Windows and Dell updates, to include the most recent RealTek Audio Driver that Dell released on 12/20/22) was to go to "Manage Sound Devices" in Windows, disable the Intel MIPI SoundWire device, and then re-enable it.  I then ensured that it was set as the Default Output device.

Hopefully that helps anyone who is still having this issue after trying all of the suggestions above!

Thank you for this. I have spent hours trying to fix this (and several other) issue(s) on my brand new very expensive laptop, with various toggles, installs, reinstalls, with no joy. How can new items be shipped like this. Thankfully your solution has sorted it. Shockingly poor troubleshooting and support from Dell.  Now onto the next problem on my non-functioning new laptop.

Hi all,

Please install driver version 10.0.220.1.

If downgrading the driver doesn't resolve the issue, please share the symptoms and, if possible, a video recording. This will help our engineers understand and replicate the issue on their end to develop a suitable solution.

We appreciate your cooperation!

@DELL-Nat M   THIS WORKED!

I have a dell XPS 9320 (purchased March 2023).

Same issue ... volume was at MAX but only sound like it was at 5%.   I always have my laptop docked.  Didn't notice the issue until now - while traveling and not using external speakers.  Bluetooth device audio output was fine.

I went through the other steps with enabling and disabling...none worked.   Again, THIS WORKED!
