XPS 13 9310, right side TB3/USB-C stopped working

XPS 13 9310

The right side Thunderbolt 3 port (USB-C) on My Dell XPS 13 9310 recently stopped working. Fortunately, the left side port works perfectly. I've seen multiple threads on this issue and have tried several of the suggestions without success. Unlike most of the other postings, the system sees no issues with the port, it just doesn't work.

So far I've tried:

1. Drained Flea Power by removing the battery and holding the power button 15 seconds.

2. Updated all Dell drivers.  There was a new BIOS and Chipset driver.

3. Uninstalled the following, rebooted, and let the system reinstall

     Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 9A1B

     Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 9A1D

      USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)

      USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)

      UCM-UCSI ACPI Device

4. Confirmed no visible physical damage

5. Ran diagnostics

Any other ideas?

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them. Click the "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session.

It seems you've already tried several troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue with the right-side Thunderbolt 3 port on your Dell XPS 13 9310. Since you've covered many of the common troubleshooting methods, here are a few additional steps you can take:

  1. Check for BIOS/UEFI Settings: Sometimes, BIOS/UEFI settings can affect the functionality of Thunderbolt ports. Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during boot (usually by pressing F2 or Del) and see if there are any Thunderbolt-related settings that may be causing the issue. Ensure that the Thunderbolt security settings are not overly restrictive.

  2. Check Device Manager: Go to Device Manager in Windows and expand the "System devices" and "Universal Serial Bus controllers" sections. Look for any devices with error symbols or warnings. This might give you clues about any driver or hardware-related issues. If you see any issues, try updating or reinstalling drivers for those devices.

  3. Try a Different OS: To rule out a software or driver-related issue, consider creating a bootable USB drive with a different operating system (e.g., a Linux distribution) and boot your laptop from it. See if the Thunderbolt port works in the alternative OS environment. This will help determine if the issue is hardware or software-related.

  4. Hardware Inspection: Carefully inspect the Thunderbolt port for any physical damage, debris, or foreign objects that might be obstructing the connection. Also, check if there are any bent pins in the port. If you notice any damage or obstruction, consider contacting Dell Support for a repair or replacement.

  5. System Restore: If the issue started after a specific software or driver installation, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the port was working correctly.

  6. Contact Dell Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's advisable to contact Dell Support for further assistance. They may recommend additional diagnostics or arrange for a hardware inspection/repair if necessary.

Since you've already tried many troubleshooting steps, including driver updates and hardware diagnostics, it's possible that the issue might be hardware-related or a specific configuration in the BIOS/UEFI settings. Dell Support should be able to provide you with specialized assistance tailored to your specific laptop model and configuration.
