A number of good M.2 NVMe SSD in the market. I personally like the WD Black as sold here.  It is available with or without the heatsink. Also Samsung or AData XPG. I would suggest Macrium Reflect Free available here for cloning or imaging the old drive.

The one Dell puts on their machine S##S

Doesn't go beyond 2000 MB/S

Machine support both NVME 2230 and 2280 types (small and full size)

Personal favorites

Regular : Corsair MP510 series (Great price and performance up to 3500 MB/S)

Premium : Samsung 970 EVO

This is great info. Since the XPS 13 is a thunderbolt is there an ssd enclosure you can recommend… if I actually need one for the cloning.

There are many online at Amazon for instance. This one from Sabrent which is a name I trust and the price is fair. And if you want to go high price then this one from ASUS.

 I see that xps 13 9305 is using small ssd bc711 which is half in size than Samsung 970 Evo .  it’s heatsink plate 2230 is having partition in it which create issue with ssd Samsung 970evo so curious to know how we can upgrade ssd ?

Should I buy the one with heat sink or without heatsink for the XPS 13 9530?  I suspect that the one with heat sink would be preferable but will either fit in the slot?  Or will one work better than the other..

@DELL-Cares

I've purchased Crucial P3 Plus 2TB PCle Gen 4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 5000MB/s - CT2000P3PSSD8 to upgrade my current 256GB SSD in the DELL XPS 13 -9305.  Will my new SSD work on this laptop.  Please also direct me how to clone my current SSD to new SDD using SABRENT USB 3.2 10 GPS enclosure to connect new SSD to laptop.
