XPS 13 7390 2-in-1, short battery life less than 4 hours

I have the new xps 13 2 in 1, 16g ram, 512gb storage and 4k display. Now I know that the 4k display takes a lot from the battery life, but even so I got a lot less than the time Dell says I should. With battery save on, 50% brightness and only using Chrome (10 tabs open) I got max 3 hours and 45 mins before the laptop shuts off. All the tests show that the batteries are healthy but somehow I still get less than 4 hours. So what should I do? Can this be fixed ? (I have already turned all settings on to optimize battery life).

The XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 sales page  in the * by, "Work or play all day", states =

"Actual battery life may be significantly less than the test results and varies depending on product configuration and use, software, usage, operating conditions, power management settings and other factors. Maximum battery life will decrease with time."

Thanks, I already have a local support team looking at my issue(s) but I was hoping I to hear from other members experiencing and see if other people are experiencing the same type of issues and what worked for them.

Mine literally died. I've had the laptop for about a month and I woke up the other day to a critical battery failure, and essentially a $3000 brick, because even plugged in it won't stay on for more than a few minutes. And support... even though I'm supposed to have next-day service, at first told me to send my laptop in. Which I refused. Then they said it would be a week or so, because of having to ship the new battery via ground. And now they are telling me the battery is on back-order until DECEMBER. Which, when I complained about that, they said they'd be happy to replace my BRAND NEW laptop with a refurbished one. You can imagine how well I took that suggestion. And now I'm waiting to hear back as they had to "escalate my ticket to a supervisor" or something like that.

I can't really speak to actual battery life, since mine was plugged in most of the time anyway, but seems like there are some sort of battery issues going on, in general. Because a one month old laptop shouldn't have a critical battery failure.

Also completely irrelevant, but the fact that my Dell assigned forum name is Losing_My_Mind is so spot on, it's really not even funny.

Hi there,

I am having the same problem with my laptop. Only lasts for 3 hours and all I do is web browsing and do emails on this. Did the diagnostic tests and says that all is fine?

I changed to Dell in hope of a good robust laptop with long battery life and was excited about 16 hours of battery, since my old Apple didn't perform anylonger as expected.

However, this is turning into a nightmare. Furthermore, I purchased McAfee when I bought my Dell and never received an activation code. All in all, my opinion with this purchase has turned from exciting to annoying. Constantly trying to figure out how I need to install this and that.

Please let me know what your solution for the battery is as I am just talking with the support now...

I am sorry to know that the battery is not giving the advertised backup. The advertised backup is obtained under certain situations. At this point in time, we can only troubleshoot and identify what could be the reason.

I just got mine yesterday, fully charged, only getting 3:30 hours battery, and thats will all the system updates out of the way, and battery saver tuned mostly to the left (more power saving)

incredibly disapointed when the website claims upto 10 hours viewing netflix.

I shall be returning mine as I assume the battery is faulty.

Same spec as yours, also only getting roughly 4 hours of battery life.  My use case is mainly just word processing and web browsing.

Far far short of the advertised double digit battery life!  Not sure how this can satisfy the "all day battery life" as per Project Athena...

HI,

Prajwal here from Dell community.

I see that the battery was replaced previously.

Just wanted to make sure if you're still getting a less battery backup with the replaced battery?

Prajwal,

I am not sure whether you are replying to me or the original poster.  However my unit definitely did not have the battery replaced.

I have received a private message from your colleague saying that I should only expect 1.5 to 2 hours of battery life.  Which directly contradicts with dell's own advertisement claiming 10 hours and 22 minutes.  At what point does this become false and misleading advertisement.

"Hello!

Your XPS 13 9370 2N1 is shipped with a 4-cell battery. The estimated life of a 4-cell battery is 1.5 to 2 hours only. Considering you're receiving 4hrs of backup, it surely is good battery life.

However, I'd want to be sure we're not looking at any hardware related issues. Could you run the hardware test and let me know if you receive any errors?

How to run the test: https://dell.to/2OjIOEZ

Do note down the Error and validation code (if any) and share it here with me.

According to response your got "Your XPS 13 9370 2N1 is shipped with a 4-cell battery. The estimated life of a 4-cell battery is 1.5 to 2 hours only.". But ALL new XPS 13 2-in-1 are sold with ONLY 4-cell battery and there is NO upgrade option! So where advertised 7-10 hours come from? I bought new Dell XPS 2-in-1 specifically for travel and battery life is critical for me. Unfortunately I found that battery life for my laptop in only a few hours only today. So I'm considering returning my laptop. Such a disappointment!

Same situation here. I just got mine last month and it came with a faulty battery.  I waited for almost two weeks for a replacement battery be shipped from China . After the battery is replaced, I found the battery only last for around 3 hours for browsing. I turned off wifi, cloud drive etc and let it sleep and the battery still only lasted for less than 4 hours. Technical support  checked my computer and found "everything is normal". I hope it is due to a faulty battery, but it looks like you guys experienced the same. I hope Dell can fix the problem, otherwise it is really false advertising and I demand a refund.

And then what battery was used to get 10 hour and 57 minute battery life in the review?

I got my laptop a week back and even i am getting poor battery backup.

I have XPS 13 inch 2in1, i7 10th Gen, 32Gb, 512 GB and 4K display. I keep the resolution to 1080p with brightness at around 30% still dont get more than 4 hours.

Same problem. Got mine about a year ago and most of the time plug in. However, lately starting to travel more and more and battery only last about an hour. This defeats the purpose of a ultrabook and I am not happy.
