Upgrading SSD and Clean Windows Install

XPS 15 9500

XPS 15 9500

I have an XPS15 9500 that originally came with Windows 10.  I had a free upgrade to Windows 11 that I installed online. I am assuming that all the Windows software and system drivers are embedding in the SSD since it did not come with any software.

I've created a Windows 10 and Windows 11 Bootable USB Flash Drive to install the new SSD.  Do I need to install Windows 10 since that is what came with the machine or can I install Windows 11 straight away?

I'm gonna assume that my Product Key and Activation information is connected to my Microsoft User Account.

Also, is there any way to get the drivers and software for my laptop that is embedded in any "hidden" drives on the original SSD?

Thanks in advance.

If you want to run Windows 11 on your machine, it can be installed directly without preinstalling Windows 10.

If you perform a clean installation of Windows 11 (a preferred method), it will be a lean Windows from Microsoft without any preinstalled software from Dell.  You will have to reinstall any software that you plan to use.

The license is embedded on motherboard and will be activated once the system is online.  Your Windows 11 will be active with the same edition as previous Windows 10.

There is a restore partition on the drive but not recommended to be used as it will bring the system back to when the system was shipped and lacking all of security patches and updates.  After new Windows installation, go to Dell support site to download and install chipset driver, ME driver.  Then run Windows updates and it will install the remaining drivers for your system.  Remember to install all optional updates.
