No Audio Output Device is installed

XPS 17 9700

XPS 17 9700

I don't know how long my computer has had this issue.  I have no audio and the icon on the says no audio output device is installed.  I click on settings, systems, and then sound.  IT says no output device found.  I think I downloaded the Realtek audio driver and installed it.  What is the issue?  Thanks.

Assuming there was no change in BIOS settings and no system software upgrade being done leading to this issue.  Check in Device Manager for your installed driver status.  Then go to Settings, Apps, Installed apps and uninstall any existing Realtek Audio, Realtek High Definition Audio driver.  Then reboot machine.

Download and install this chipset driver Intel-Chipset-Device-Software_RVRV0_WIN_10.1.19468.8385_A23_06.EXE, reboot the machine.

Download and install this Realtek audio driver  Realtek-SoundWire-Audio-Driver_KK17V_WIN_10.0.220.1_A89.EXE,, if the option is presenting, tick the box for clean installation.  Reboot the machine.

Now, check your sound output again.

@Chino de Oro   Thank you for your email.  I got to the device manager,  I see sound video, and game controller line.   Under it, I see  intel display audio, intel smart sound technology, and NVIDIA  virtual audio device.   That is it.  I do see an other device and under it there is unknown device.

How do I see the installed driver status?

In Settings and Apps I see Realtek audio driver (3/23/24), Realtek card reader, and Realtek USB audio.  That is it.

What is the next step?

I downloaded and installed the chipset driver and the Realtek audio driver and rebooted the computer.  IT did not fix the issue.  I still have no sound and no audio output is installed.  What should I do next?

In Device Manager, select to remove, uninstall the unknown device.

In Settings, Apps, uninstall Realtek audio driver, uninstall Realtek USB audio.

After system reboot, installing the Realtek Sound wire audio driver from my previous post.

Reboot and check audio output again.

@Chino de Oro   I did what you suggested.  It worked.  I have sound and the speakers now work.  Thank you for your help.

My norton now says I have an out of date driver Intel smart sound technology audio controller.  Not sure if this is the issue.  I am not going to update it.
