Dell XPS 9700 Power consumption while idle

Among all the issues crappy Dell XPS notebooks have, I've recently discovered another one. I've met this issue several times, and it appears again and again. And I could not manage the cause for years. Tried clean windows install, DDU video drivers reinstall, removing software, sfx \scannow, etc.

I do not need any help from (anyway useless) dell support, I'm just leaving this thread for anyone who encounters this issue.

So the issue:

Huge power consumption while idle

Constantly running cooling system

Power consumption was metered by HWiNFO64 latest.

Long story short, Windows power options, USB device selective suspend, if you ever disable it, your laptop will consume at least 35w while idling, and 60-70w with any load like Youtube.

After enabling this option, everything is back to normal, actual idle power consumption is <10w, mine is affected by task manager, EDGE running, Mail, etc.

This issue is irrelevant to USB accessories attached and appears even if no USB devices presented at all.

To receive assistance from Dell support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Click the "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private Service Tag and all of your troubleshooting.
