Dell XPS 9320 Ubuntu 22.04 camera not working after update
Ubuntu 22.04 automatically installed updates on 8/14/2024 and the built-in camera immediately stopped working. It appears in the menu for applications and the "Additional drivers" tab in "Software Updater" shows that the Dell drivers are selected (see below), but all applications (e.g., Zoom, etc.) just show a black image. I'm not sure, but I think the relevant update logs are below.
Any suggestions?

Hi, same issue for me and same setup. Upgraded to kernel 6.8.0-40-generic and the camera doesn't seem to turn on anymore. It is still detected as it appears as an option on zoom/teams and cheese, but the white led that signals the camera is on doesn't turn on and the video is just a blank screen, no message or other.
Tried reinstalling the drivers by selecting "Do not use this device" and then reselecting "Using HAL library ..." on software & updates screen as shown by OP, but no success.
Also tried rebooting on the previous kernel 6.5.0 but it doesn't seem to solve the issue.

Hi all,
I don't if anybody cares about this thread but will add the results of my investigation of the same problem with Dell XPS 9320 Ubuntu 22.04, original image. I have 2 of the notebooks. The camera stopped working after the following update:
Start-Date: 2024-08-20 09:34:42
Commandline: apt upgrade

End-Date: 2024-08-20 09:35:02

What is interesting is that my wife using the same laptop with Ubuntu also has her camera not working. But the only update she has in her logs is intel-microcode:amd64.
So this is something about Intel's firmware that went wrong here.

One update from me: a new set of updates came through on August 20, including some camera updates (see below), and now the camera works, but it's glitchy. For example, the image is upside-down when using Zoom (but strangely right side up when using Google Meet).
I'm hoping this means that someone is working on this and we'll get another set of updates soon. In the meantime, workarounds welcome.

Update: ran updates on 27/08 and it seems to have almost entirely fixed the issue. The camera is working on Zoom, Teams and Meet.
Only minor remaining bug is with blur on Zoom and Teams: on Zoom the background gets greyed out instead of blurred, while on Teams there is no blurring.

@vkazanov this is the part of the apt log that should be relevant (if you want other outputs tell me which command you'd like me to run)

@teppic Thanks!
I have the same package versions installed.
Could you please share your firmware versions? I want to compare these with mine. You can get these with the following command:
fwupdmgr get-devices

@teppic while we're at it, a kernel version would also helpful: uname -a
Thanks a lot!
