Brand new XPS 17 9700 battery light flashes (orange and white) all the time

I have just bought a XPS 17 9700 and out of the box the battery light flashes in orange and white. I have checked the battery health in windows and BIOS and it indicates to be "excellent". I have also did the pre boot checkup and the battery was healthy as well there.

Should I return the product? Any solutions?

How many times white and how many times amber? It could signify any number of problems as indicated on this chart. I would be calling Dell tech support as this may be a simple or a serious problem. And yes I would consider returning as a new system should not be experiencing possible hardware problems.

A corrupted BIOS from the factory is really not something you should have to try and remedy. I would call Dell tech support and let them determine a course of action. The BIOS can possibly be recovered but on a new system how much time and effort do you want to expend on a system that should have worked fine out of the box. This web site gives you an indication as to what is entailed in recovering the BIOS.

It is 3 times amber and 5 times white. Based on the link you provided it means SBIOS Flash Corruption.

Any suggestion how to fix it? I rather not return it if possible.

I have just talked with the support and we ran a diagnostic and it indicated everything is fine. The support told me since the diagnostic didn't show any problem, I shouldn't worry about the lights flashing.

Also the flashing changed pattern. First it flashes 5 time white and then rapidly switches between amber and white a couple of times

I have just realized that I only have 50% of RAM available. Could that be related to the blinking issue?

FWIW I had the same issue with a new XPS 13 9310.

I contacted Dell support and ran all the diagnostics they suggested. The results looked OK, and they said that the only solution was to replace the motherboard. They sent out a service tech who put in a new motherboard and the problem disappeared.
