XPS 8950, graphics card bracket part number
My new 8950 was just delivered yesterday, spec'd with the lower end GTX 1650 card option thinking that it would include the support bracket for the graphics card.
I want to replace it with my own card that's a bit longer and see that it's not there, presumably because the 1650's small enough that it didn't require one. I've contacted Dell support to order the part and there are none available for purchase, nor are they even able to provide me with a part number from their system.
Does anybody have Dell part number available for this piece? Also, would anyone know if these are the same brackets used on previous generations (8940, 8930, etc) of the XPS desktop? Thanks

Thanks @JOcean - I wasn't sure if the new generation 8950 (with the larger volume chassis) used the same part, so that's good to know. Appreciate the confirmation

I think you mean this support which is DP/N 0742KM. Available here and here. And a Google search turns up a number of other sources.

some 8950 unit appear to be shipped without the end GFX holder such as the unit I have seen. In promotion photo of 8950 there are both end GFX holder and mid GFX bracket.
The mid GFX bracket in 8950 looks remarkably similar to that used in Aurora R13. here is DP/N of the mid bracket in R13.
8950 appears to be reincarnation of R13. like in the old days Dell had XPS 730X compete with Alienware Area 51 R1 model based on same DNA/chipset, only the AW has more boutique case design with more blings.
The GFX end holder seems similar in design to that used in Aurora R13.
PS Dell uses the same design of PSU compartment at bottom in 8950 and R13. only paint is different.

Great information, thanks for the detail @redxps630! I didn't see the end support bracket in the 8950 service manual, but that may be another option too. Cheers

the end support holder is useful if your card has a Dell extension blade as shown in the photos above.
the mid GFX bracket assembly appears be customizable. there are 4 slots in the vertical piece where the horizontal piece can be placed in. photos show various position of horizontal piece holding either the middle or end of gpu. this makes sense as the bracket's horizontal piece needs to avoid the 8 pin PCIe power connector sockets on the side of GFX, which is variable in position.

I understand now, thanks - the extension blade is a part of the graphics card, not of the support holder itself. Cheers

As indicated by redxps630, Dell P/N VTHN4 for the Dell XPS8950 GPU Bracket is correct - I confirmed with Dell. I have been trying to purchase this part from Dell for the past few weeks without any success and just received this response:
"Dear Customer,
We are sorry to inform you, the only way to get this part is when purchasing a system from the factory."
It appears that Dell does not sell this GPU bracket to their customers unless you order the GFX Card installed in the XPS8950 from the factory.
Has anyone had success in purchasing this GPU Bracket (VTHN4) from Dell?

they are just giving you a hard time. It is a piece of plastic, not RTX4090. sales response could vary quite a bit depending on whom you speak to.
can also use non Dell gpu support bracket including RGB from coolermaster.

@redxps630 - thanks for the recommendation of the non-Dell gpu bracket, I'll buy the non-Dell part. I did try to escalate at Dell to try to obtain the dell part and I received the following reply:
"We understand your concern on having this part, however our product team messaged us with adding further notes on why this part is not available after point of sale.
We do not offer every part APOS (After Point of Sale). When a system is designed the Engineers, Procurement, Legal, Regulatory, etc. teams determine which parts need to be offered for APOS sales to support the platform. Sku’ing up parts, forecasting, storing and maintaining inventory costs money. If the part is a very low volume seller it does not make economical sense to set it up and offer in our sales tools. This part falls into that category.
If you would like to escalate it further, then please do drop an e-mail @ one.dell.care@dell.com.
Thanks for your patience and understanding…"

Any luck?? Google also says that part just doesn’t exist. Even eBay said “no”.

Nope, no luck - I gave up on it and will go with a third party GPU support bracket instead

Ugh. Ok, thanks! I DIY’d one with a washer and a screw going through a concrete anchor (rigid plastic tubing to hold/create threads for screws in brick/concrete). It works and the washer slides into the bottom slot so it’s super stable but would just like to get the oem support because it simply bugs me. Lol. I saw a few on eBay before but not for those prices. $5 or less is the only willing option.
