XPS 8940 - Where is the microphone jack
Hello: Where is the microphone jack for my XPS 8940? I just want to plug in a regular 3.5mm 3/8 microphone into my computer to use. I cannot figure out how to do that. Can someone please advise if this is possible and if not, what do I have buy to get it to work. Thank you.

In addition to @Colorado_scott good answer ...
Like him, I mostly use "USB based" headsets and mics now-days.
An old headset with "4 contact bands" (like from a Android phone or old iPhone) would work in that front jack.
Here is a little "USB sound-card" that would work. You can plug your mono-channel analog mic into that pink jack. These are handy for many different uses.
If you really want to use your old analog mic/headset with the Internal on-board sound-card, you can use a Headset Buddy.

The manual states : (#7 above) : Connect headphones or a headset (headphone and microphone combo).
I personally use a USB mic, so I have not tried this.

Thank you for mentioning the options. I think the USB adapter might work for me so I could hook it up from the back.

Thank you for your reply. I'll look at the option you mentioned in the front but I'm really trying to get it from the back. Thank you again.

Yes, it should work with the (analog mono-channel) mic you describe ... connected to the back of the XPS desktop computer.
Another advantage of this solution is that you can easily switch between "sound cards" (and therefore its speakers and/or mics) from the speaker-icon near in the Windows-10 Task-Tray.

You've probably sorted you problem now but for future users, the solution is very simple:
Plug your microphone into the headphone jack, on the front panel. A dialog box will pop up asking what you've just plugged in. Select 'Microphone in' and voila.
