XPS 8930, Realtek HDA, Waves and speakers detection

Hi!

I recently bought a new Dell XPS 8930 Desktop with Realtek HD Audio driver (+ the Waves software).
I connected my external speakers to the rear jack port (the green one).
I don't like having too many icons in the notification area, so I removed the "WavesSvc64.exe -Jack" entry from the registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).
Unfortunately, now, whenever I unplug the speakers and plug them back again they are not detected. I need to restart the system for them to be detected. Restoring the WavesSvc64.exe entry to the registry solves the problem. So it seems the Waves service is necessary for the connected device detection.
I also tried to replace the Realtek driver with the generic High Definition Audio Device driver provided by Microsoft. Then everything works great. But... I am deprived of benefits of using the MaxxAudio app since MaxxAudio is part of the Realtek driver.

What I'd like to achieve is:
1. I'd like to keep the MaxxAudio app in my system and use its sound enhancement (launching the app manually to adjust sound settings).
2. I'd like to get rid of its system tray icon.
3. I want my speakers to be automatically detected every time I plug them into the jack port.

Do you think it is possible?

Best regards
Matt

Not essential. BUT... some users who disabled Waves MaxxAudio end up with reduced/low speaker volume and really poor sound quality.

So, if it ain't broke, don't break it..!

Just leave things alone and either auto-hide and/or relocate the taskbar, or learn to ignore all those icons in the notification area...

Right-click the taskbar in an empty area and select Taskbar settings. When that screen opens, scroll down to Notification area and click link Select which icons appear on the taskbar.

And on that screen turn Waves MaxxAudio Service Application off.  That way the icon won't be visible in the notification area unless you click the ^ to reveal hidden icons. You can still click the (hidden) W icon to open the app.

Thanks for the tip, Ron
Sure, I can hide the icon this way. But then the the "show hidden icons arrow" appears (as you mentioned), which also irritates me. That's why I always have the "Always show all icons" option enabled. But... these are my twists/whims
I just thought there might be some another solution.
Thank you and best regards!

You could always set the taskbar to hide automatically on the Taskbar Settings screen. It will pop up when you mouse to bottom of the screen if/when you want to see it.

Or maybe drag the taskbar to a new position at left or right edge or at top of the screen, and these positions can also be with or without hide automatically turned on...

Many thanks for these hints, Ron!
So, to sum up, the Realtek driver's WavesSvc64.exe process is essential for detecting devices being plugged in, right?

Best regards
Matt

OK, this is what i will do  Thank you again

BTW, when I open the Task Manager's Startup tab I can see 8 programs. 6 of them are enabled and 2 are disabled (Dell Mobile Connect Startup and Killer Control Center).
So I wonder why these 2 processes are disabled since I did not disable them. I can't even find their entries in the registry.

Unless you really want Killer, you don't need it. IMO, it's totally useless. Dell installs this bloatware on the XPS 8930 by default, even if you didn't order Killer WiFi. You might find Killer entries listed as services if you run services.msc from Start>Run and you can disable all Killer entries there. That's exactly what I did. And I disabled Killer Control Center in Task Manager too.

Do you want/need Dell Mobile Connect? I don't and got rid of this one too, but it took some doing to find and get rid of it. If you want to get rid of it, you can try using the free version of Revo Uninstaller.

Bottom line: if these items are disabled on the Startup tab in Task Manager, just ignore them. And at the risk of being repetitive, if it ain't broke, don't break it..!
