XPS 8700, graphics card upgrade for photo and video editing

XPS 8700

XPS 8700

I'm looking for better performance for photo and video editing. I use dual monitors, one on displayport and one HDMI connected.

I have a Dell XPS 8700 from 2015 with 24 GB of ram, i7-4790 CPU. The original graphics card is a two-slot AMD Radeon(TM) HD R9 270 2GB G DDR5. Windows 10 Pro. I use Adobe Lightroom 6.14 and Luminar Neo for photo editing and Wondershare Filmora for video.

The AMD card I have is old and what I am reading suggests it isn't very good for photo and video editing by today's standards and doesn't work well with modern software. Certainly some things are uncomfortably slow. I get some crashes, and complaints from the software that the graphics driver is out of date, but updating the driver causes other things to crash. The driver isn't supported anymore.

What's a modern graphics card with modest price? I don't need gaming capability. Maybe $200 is an absolute top price.

RTX 2070 would be great, but exceeds $200 budget.  Consider RTX 2060 6gb gddr6.   RTX 2060 Super would be even better if you can find a deal around $200.

You could try a Zotac Nvidia GTX-1660. I put one in my old XPS-8300 but I also installed a Corsair-650w PS for it. I use it for my virtual pinball cabinet. A SSD also of course.

If you aren't running a SATA-3/600 SSD for C-Drive, that will buy you some speed.

But really, with that kind of work-flow ... you should just buy a new computer finally. We can help you pick one (and inside components) if you ask.

Those are both rare, and even used ... no-where near $200.

But who buys used video-cards from strangers?
