Hi.

I would like a hardware extension for my XPS-8930 for one more year, past the four years already paid for. Naturally, I would pay for it if the fee was reasonable. Why can't Dell offer me this option? <The 2018 released XPS 8930 is considered end of life which is why Dell will not sell additional hardware warranty. The exact same thing happened to me.  When I had Premium support, I liked using Dell Update & Support Assist programs, never needed anything else.  When this agreement ran out, I was advised that I needed to purchase the annual software agreement to run these, which I did.  Well so far I still don't know what is actually included in in the agreement for support (not even described on Dell's support page) and neither program runs or can be reinstalled.  It seems no one can answer these or help me.  My wife has a Dell computer long out of support and both programs still work.  If the software agreement isn't necessary to run the programs, then I want to cancel it and get a FULL refund.

Yes, I've just encountered the exact same problem. I am trying to work with them to figure this out.

I came across this post today when in a similar position as OP. This search result also came up, which explains what DSS does. I don't think I'll get it. But I also worry about whether it's the right solution for me since I'm not a computer expert and also don't know what software issues may arise as my machine gets older. The decision seems a lot clearer for more advanced users (don't get it) and far less advanced users (get it). I think I'll risk not. But I'm doing so knowing that if I change my mind once my current warranty is out, I'll have to pay even more later on. https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000221940/dell-software-support-service-what-is-it-and-how-to-purchase

@ECisMyName  - It's a personal choice you have to make.

If your PC is getting old, it's not likely Dell will be releasing any new driver or BIOS updates. So Windows Update will be your main source of updates for Windows, video drivers, etc.

Make sure you make full backups of your drive(s) on a regular basis.  There are a number of good imaging apps to do this. That way, if something goes wrong, you can quickly/easily revert to a working image on your boot drive, and have backup copies of personal files too.

And if you still run into issues, you can always come to this forum to ask questions and get free help.
