ThinOS 9 - UDP

Hi,

Just came across the fact that UDP is not leveraged by ThinOS 9. RDP (AVD) client.

Hence the more choppy multimedia experience.

This is absolutely flabbergasting

Is this a change from 8.6?

I can confirm that RDP video uses UDP, but (at least, in my configuration), audio uses TCP.

When I open System Information on a 3040 and play a YouTube video, muting the video drops all TCP traffic but UDP traffic continues.

My main issue, that Thin OS 9.X (and 8.6) doesn't seem to address, is audio streams have pops/snaps/crackles every 25-30 seconds.  I'd love to force audio over UDP to see if that fixes the crackling problem, which sounds like a buffer underrun problem (that changing the audio buffer size doesn't address).

It seems to me that ThinOS 8.6 use UDP for both audio and video. At least I capture UDP port 3389 traffic when playing music only, which I don't w/ a ThinOS 9 client.

I found that the best result was w/ sound set to high quality at the host side. This is counter-intuitive because it is supposed to generate more traffic. Maybe less cpu / latency for compression / decompression.

I set a QoS policy at the host side (DCSP value 46 for both TCP and UDP port 3389). But I'm not network expert and never had confirmation from my network colleagues that this rule is implemented on all routers.

I just realized I posted a new topic about the same issue.  Oh well, maybe it will get more eyeballs?  I compiled some data/observations that may help, as well.
