Xp install, how do you create new partition and format hard drive

Hello everyone,
System crashed. All I get is windows blue screen with Unmountable Boot Volume. Went through Dell Knowledge base.
Tried
Chkdsk> Failed
Repair> Failed
After this Dell says to remove the existing partition, create a new partition, format the drive, and then reinstall the operating system.
I have Paul Thurrott's site for reinstalling windows but it doesn't explain how to remove the existing partition, create a partition or format the drive.
. Would appreciate it if someone would tell me how to do this.
Thanks
Rich

Hi,

First of all, get into your bios set up and change the BOOT SEQUENCE to boot from CD 1st, Hard drive 2nd and Floppy last. You can also HIT F12 for a ONE TIME BOOT when the computer is booting up.

From there, put in the the XP cd and restart. Boot from CD at the prompt and run set up. It will ask you to DELETE the existing partition and also how to CREATE a NEW (RAW) partition. Just follow the prompts and choose to do a QUICK NTFS FORMAT. From there you should be all set and it will begin to go into set up.

You can email me at etr723@hotmail.com My name is Eddy.

Mr Rich,

You may have missed it. At step #5 of Thurott's site it shows the prompt to delete your existing C:\ partition. After you do that you can create one or more new partitions from the unpartitioned space that results, then format them and let Windows XP continue to install.
