Hi Sandie3949,
There have no limitation on the number of fonts which can be installed, although the boot time will be increased due to the requirement to read the information for all those fonts while the system is starting up. To prevent a font from loading without removing it from the hard disk, move the font from the Fonts folder into another folder. Use this method for troubleshooting purposes. This process does not completely remove the font, because font registry information is not deleted. However, it prevents the font from loading. The following is list of fonts XP installs:

Printer's Apprentice is an excellent font manager that is intuitive and easy to use. Great for keeping track of what you have installed, printing samples, etc., etc., You can see more about it here:
http://www.loseyourmind.com/pa75.asp
I'm not affiliated with the company, I just like the product :~)
This was taken from the Printer's Apprentice FAQ:
18. What fonts should I not delete when cleaning out my system?
Reducing the number of fonts installed can increase your startup speed. If you want to clean out all fonts on your system, here is a list of fonts you generally should not remove.
Microsoft has an excellent page at http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/default.asp that lists what fonts ship with various projects from the company.

No problem... try Printer's Apprentice, it's a free trial. I don't know how I would get along without it.

If you have Corel Graphics Suite 11, it includes Bitstream Font Navigator which is a good font manager, and is free with the bundled Corel application.
It allows grouping of font types, finding fonts on your hard drives and cdroms, installing and uninstalling the fonts, deleting duplicate fonts, previewing the fonts, printing the fonts, etc.
****The Free trial for the Printer's Apprentice Program is shareware, and costs $25.00 after the trial period ***

Magikil:
I have CorelGraphics, and they do include a font manager, but it's not nearly as robust or well designed as Printer's Apprentice, that's why I bought it for $25, it's a reasonable price and well worth it, with free upgrades on in version improvements and and only $12 for major upgrades. It's now at version 7.5 ...I started out 6 years ago at v6.1 and have only paid for one upgrade, to version 7 over that time, not a bad deal at all and they've made huge improvements over the years.
If you're really strapped for cash, I suggest you look into Sue Fisher's "The Font Thing"
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~scef/tft.html
It's also a big improvement over Corel's Bitstream Navigator and it's FREEware, though it too, is not nearly as good as Printer's Apprentice.
