Uninstalling Norton Internet Security 2003

I now have a router and no longer need NIS 2003.  I intend to install NAV2005.  Do I need to uninstall NIS 2003 prior to installing NAV 2005?  When I put the NAV 2005 CD in, does the install program prompt me to uninstall NIS2003?

Hi,

remove NIS with the Symantec removal utility

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2001090510510636

Then install NAV

I would still recommend a software Firewall, but not the Windows XP one.

The free version of Zone alarm will suffice for all you need.or upgrade to the Pro version.

The Norton Firewall is one of the few programs I reformatted to get rid of.

It took my ISDN internet connection down to speeds approaching morse code or semaphore.  Zone Alarm makes very ittle difference. I have a Netgeat NAT router as well.

Thanks!

One more question: If I uninstall NIS 2003, does this also uninstall NAV 2003?

For God sake don't install NAV2005. Besides all the reasons you may have already heard, like it's a hog, if you have a Dell you will probably start getting the blue screen of death in a few weeks. To make a long story short, it will try to scan your floppy drive if you have one, and at some point you will start to notice shut down taking longer and longer. Then one day you'll get the blue screen every time you shut down. Don't bother calling our tech support in NuDelli, because they won't have the answer and will tell you to re-install the system. I found out the reason for the blue screen was NAV2005, and the instructions were to uninstall it and see if that cures the problem. I did and it did. I downloaded Zonealarm Security Suite and love it.

I have been using NAV for at least five years now on all 6 of the computers that I have on Win2000 and WinXP.  Never had any of the problems that you describe. No BSD.  Shut downs are just as fast today as to when I first installed NAV.

As a matter of fact, I HIGHLY recommend it.  Presently I am using NAV2005 on 3 of the machines and NAV2004 on the rest.

Go ahead and install it if you like it.

I run Norton SystemWorks 2004 and Norton Personal Firewall 2004. This link describes my experiences with NSW/NPF 2004 with XP. NSW has a bit more overhead as it refreshes its statuses *groan* every time it is started. But other than a boot-up delay to make it happy - when properly configured to the machine, I have had no problems with either product.

Obviously some people are able to run NAV with no problems, or they wouldn't still be in business. I only told of my experiences, and know of other people who had to uninstall to save their systems. I didn't even get into their tech support. Just go to CNET.com and read the reviews of NIS and NAV2005 users.
