send error report / don't send pop-up

Question

every time I close internet explorer I get the send error report / don't send pop-up. Pease help.

You can turn off that annoying message

Right click My Computer/Properties/Advanced/Error Reporting

Put a check in "Disable Error Reporting"
and also
"But notify me when a critical error occurs"

But why are you getting the message? What problems are you having with IE?

If one disables the send error report / don't send pop-up message, which gives one the choice of sending an error report or not sending one, does it mean that an error report is never sent to Microsoft? Or, is the default that an error report is always sent?

I tend to think that disabling the send error report / don't send pop-up message means that an error report is never sent to Microsoft, and that is what I would prefer. However, I just thought I'd ask to make sure.

Hello Stepbystep :smileyhappy:   Yes, it means the error message is never sent.   But make sure you have a check at  'But notify me when critical errors occur' as you need to know when any such problem arises.

I don't know why I'm getting the message. I don't know what problems I'm having with IE.

I did: Right click My Computer/Properties/Advanced/Error Reporting. Now I when I close it I have another pop up! "Internet Explore hasencountered a problem and needs to close. bla bla bla..."

Yes, you will get a message like that as you still have to be told that there is a problem.
Did you take note of the whole error message?

Do you see an error message like the following?

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: winshow.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.8 Offset: 000096fe

If you do not get such an error, go back and turn on "Error Reporting" and perhaps it will show an error of the type above.

Or go to
Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Admin Tools/Event Viewer

Double click on "System" and look for "RED" errors.

Double click the error and note down all the information.
Post it back

Dunedin, You seem quite knowledgable and I wonder if you can help us to shut off an annoying pop-up dialog box with the heading 'Device Connected'.  Background:  we leave the cables for our digital camera and camcorder in our USB ports for convenience.  However, when on our Dell Dimension 8250 with Win XP a small, blue-bordered Microsoft window or dialogue box frequently appears, interfering with regular activities on our computer.  The label in the upper left blue border says 'Device Connected'.  Unlike typical Microsoft boxes or screens, there are no minimize, maximize, or 'X' icons in the upper right part of the blue border.  In the middle of the screen there is a beige/tan field with the words, 'Device connected on channel 1'.  At the bottom center of this field is an 'OK' button which, when pressed, causes the screen to disappear for a little while.  Please note:  this message does NOT appear in a so-called balloon, like the ones that appear when the cursor passes over certain icons, but in a small rectangular screen with a blue border. Well, I think you have probably answered your own question. :smileyhappy:   The camera and camcorder are USB Plug and Play devices, meaning that they are easy to just plug in when you need them and then unplug them when you have finished using them.  Usually people use Plug and Play in this way and do not leave them permanently connected. XP is just reminding you that you have not disconnected them.:smileyhappy:   So, disconnect them and see if the message goes away. It is better not to have them permanently connected anyway.
