Registry repair

During a remote session with an application provider, all linkages between applications and their data seem to be broken.  When I click on "Documents" it's empty.  When I click on Outlook Email, the application asks for me to complete all the set-up as though I'm a new user.  However, all the data is there -- there is more than one "Documents" icon and if I click on it, i get data.  I believe this is a "registry" issue.  Who can help me fix this?  How do I fix it? I do have off-site back-up through Mozy Home; if i know where the registry files are from a previous back-up, couldn't i just restore that previous registry file?   thanks
