Problem in Installing windows 7 on Dell Inspiron n5110

Question

I am trying to install Windows 7 32 bit on my laptop but i am facing a problem while installing. Once the installer boots up and i click on "Install Now" button, an error pops up saying that: A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver ...,please insert it now.

This is despite the fact that i have redownloaded the image several times and also tried to install windows from USB, but still facing the same problem.

I have googled about the problem and have came to know that it might be resolved by upgrading firmware of your DVD writer.

Hello !The problem is simply that your have to plug your USB key or your USB CDDrive on a standard USB 2.0 port (black port on the left of the machine), and not in a new-driver-needy- USB 3.0 port (blue port). Try to change the USB port for your USB Key and it will work ! V.

This is MOST often (probably more than 9 times out of 10) it is bad media. If you have already tried downloading the image several times, consider trying some sort of download manager to ensure the integrity of the download. If it is not the download, it is often the burn to DVD, although installing from USB should address that, bringing me back to question your download.

Try updating the firmware on your optical drive ... it can't hurt anything, but I doubt it will work (a USB install should have addressed that too).

I think it is not caused by bad media coz i m able to install the Win 7 from same disk/pen drive to my other PC without any problem....

and i have no idea how to update my firmware of my optical drive ... (i can't find update files)...

Are you getting the CD driver message before or after the screen showing the disks/partitions to install to? If before, it can only be the media or the drive (and since you have tried USB vs drive, it goes back to media). If after, it may be a driver issue, which you can load at that screen, which may help. Are you trying to install by BOOTING to the Windows 7 media, or are you trying to run the installer from within the OS? You have to have an OS installed to update the drive firmware, and the files are found on the Drivers and Downloads page for your system at support.dell.com: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=W764&catid=32&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INSPIRON_N5110&hidos=W764&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False You will need to choose the download that matches your model.

I am getting error message before screen showing disk/partition.

and i haven't tried running installer from inside windows, bit will surely give it a try.

and i m unable to update firmware coz it show error too: "Can't find suitable file for f/w" (maybe i m not getting compatible .bin file)

My drive model is: "TS-L633J"

You should be using this file (if your DVD drive is TS-L633J-D500) ... download and run to extract it. When it opens, if it doesn't find the FW file and start updating automatically, then click on the SEARCH box, then browse to the update folder (C:\dell\drivers\R304505\Windows) to manually find the BIN file. Not sure what to tell you if it doesn't work.

Thanks for this file... it worked for me.... My f/w has been updated.....but i haven't checked if i am able to install windows now. I will try it soon(today eve) and will tell you soon.

If you can't install using the media you have, you can download the installation ISO's from Digital River ... just Google "digital river windows 7 iso", then download the version you need. You may need to call to activate it though.

The ONLY driver you will need to consider DURING the installation is possibly the "storage" drivers. If you get to the "where do you want to install Windows" page and it says it can't find any hard drives, then you need to click the "Load Drivers" link on that page and browse to a flash drive or CD with the extracted drivers on it.

Worry about other drivers AFTER Windows is installed ... you run the EXE's inside of Windows. Start with System Software (if available for your system and OS), then Chipset. All others can come in any order following these two updates.

Looking around most folk say the problem is bad media, however seem to be other problems.

First have you tried installing from USB opposed to DVD? Also have you used the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool opposed to another burning program when you made either the USB or DVD?

Some possible fixes are here:

Change BIOS boot order The most successful fix for this issue is to set the optical (DVD) drive as the first boot device in the BIOS. To do this, first enter BIOS mode as follows:

Enter your system’s BIOS mode. This is accomplished by pressing a specific key repeatedly as soon as your computer is turned on (or right after it is restarted). For many computers, the key is F8, but it may be F1, F2, F10, the Delete (del) key or the Escape (ESC) key. Consult your computer or motherboard’s manual or try different keys until you find the right one.

Find the screen or option for changing the boot order. Follow the instructions for changing the boot order. This is sometimes accomplished by using the + or – buttons.

Update ITE ATA driver Failing the above, try booting back into Windows Vista or XP. Launch Windows Update and install the ITE ATA driver update before attempting the upgrade. The upgrade advisor may not find this driver.

Switch from SATA to AHCI Follow the aforementioned instructions for booting into your computer’s BIOS, then check your HDD or storage settings. Turn off SATA, switching to AHCI, and reboot normally, then re-attempt installation of Windows 7."

For a Dell it is pressing F2 at the Sell BIOs screen to enter the BIOs setup.

"I realized this thread is dying/old, however I have not found any really helpful advice for this problem.

What worked for me:

1. Find the model of your motherboard

2. Download the chipset drivers for your board

3. My drivers were contained in an executiable, so I ran the program and noted where the files were being extracted to.

3a. You can also try extracting the file on your own. I used 7-Zip.

4. Look for the SATA drivers. Mine were actually the SATA RAID controller driver.

5. Copy it to a flash drive, insert the flash drive into the PC you are loading Vista/7 on, and browse to the folder.

I had a nVidia Geforce 8200 chipset board, and all the drivers for the board were contained in the one download, so I just copied them all onto my USB drive.

This problem seems to stem from 64bit Vista/7 not having any RAID controller drivers on the Disc.

At least we can use USB drives now, instead of needing a floppy..."
