Outlook Express attachment .eml error message

Hello
I uninstalled Earthlink Total Access Toolbar from OUtlook Express (we no longer use earthlink) and since then, some email attachments will not open up.  I get an error message that says .eml file of unkown type cannot find association to open file, go to folder options and select (it did say earthlink message at first, but now just unknown type) and I go to folder options to try to  pick a program to associate with these attachments, but none of them work.  How do I fix this?  I uninstalled Earthlink, so cannot get the Total Access toolbar back to reassociate these attachments.  These look to be just normal attachments, text emails, not media files.  Thank you.

There are many reasons this could happen.  An easy one to fix is to open Outlook Express Tools/Options.  Make certain you are allowing attahments.  Uncheck "do not open attachments that may contain viruses."  This is OK to do if you have AV scanning of your Email.  Try removing your Email accounts and then put them back.  Be certain your Email account information reflects your new provider.  Try this microsoft site:  http://support.microsoft.com/KB/813514 .  Call Earthlink and  your new provider, ask how to fix this.

I did what you suggested, it still doesn't work and the article doesn't cover the problem, so will call Earthlink.
